Mechs in M3 post #1  quote:

In my opinion the special effects were great for the most part. To use the Mech-type-things was a big mistake. The movement of the Mechs are so very fake. They move way too quick, just like Robocop2. The problem is weight. Animators are not able to add weight in cgi-models, so when they move they move as there is no gravity or weight at all. It reminds me of the scene in S.W.E2 where big creatures walking in the arena, it's so fake. Why is it so hard to simulate weight and gravity in computer animations ?

HArd to answer. Maybe weight is more difficult then it seems. Just now they are getting physics right in video games. And still thats a far cry of perfect. Maybe for animators it is rather difficult.

My GF is a computer animator and she says that her school has a animation/physics course opening up next year. so they obvilosly have not hammered down the fundementals yets.

Just watch any FMV of Tomb Raider Angel Of Darkness and you will see how perfect Lara and other characters move PERFECTLY.
It is amazing what the ex-Core Design's artists can do.

i didnt have any problems with the mechs in m3, i thought they looked pretty darn good. They dont move too quick, just jerky movements which i think suits them. I suppose the only weird bit was when the kid was running toward the gate, that looked a little off. Nothing worth writing home about though.
