The Atkins Diet is k-k-k-k- amazing!
It works because our diets today are too high in carbohydrates, resulting in increased insulin. This insulin causes:
1. Sugars to be locked up, and then stored as fat, and
2. The realease of bad eciosanoids, like thromboxane a2 and arachindonic acid.
Protein causes a release of glycogen, which has the exact opposite biological affects of insulin. Glycogen allows sugars to be released, and stimulates the release of good eciosanoids, such as delta 6 desaturaste and HGH.
There, I'm right. I'm king of the thread! it's my thread!
No, the Atkins diet is wu-wu-wu- bad!
We need lots of carbohydrates to keep us going. It's that kind of simple, yet effective advice that has gotten America to where it is today in terms of diet and health.
Wow! I'm g-g-g shocked! Your shockingly shocking statement has me shocked, as you can see by my shocked smiley. I guess you're right, though. You're so perfect.
Hi Oats95 how long have you been on the atkins diet!! i am just starting out and need some guidlines for the induction! would appreciate any help. Thanks
Hi there, I started Atkins a year and a half ago and lost 55 pounds in 5.5 months, down to 125 pounds, and have been maintaining ever since. I did extensive research on this way of life before and during and I can tell you, there is a bunch of bogus myths out there. The biggest myth is about your cholesterol sky rocketing since more fat is eaten than in a low fat diet. BS. My cholesteral was way off the charts at 287 and now ranges from 167 to 172. Do be aware that if you stick to it correctly, your cholesterol will raise in the first 4-6 weeks but after that it plummets. If you want a general description and some advise, post your email address and I will send it to you. Good luck
Hello Everyone,
I'm new to forums. I started the atkins diet today and I'm determined after alot of researching to get this done. My total weight loss goal is 70 to 80. I am wondering what do we drink on this diet besides water? Because it seems like every drink I check out has carbs in it. My girlfriend lost 100lbs and has kept it off on the atkins diet, but she only drank water for 8 months. Hard to believe but it's true. About the myths I've read and heard it all. From getting sick to kidney disease and so on. But since I've witnessed the success in my girlfriend first hand. I'm going for it. And she is healthy as can be. She even got rid of most of her cellulite she had. Any pointers? What to drink other than water?
Thank you!! =) My email addy!! MyAngelicSoul@aol.com for those who want to send any informatin pertaining to this diet.
It's really all about lifestyle changes..which are changes that are life long changes. Eat healther, eat less, get more exercise. The Atkin's diet may help shed pounds in the beginning, but can cause a lot of health problems. How many people can honestly say they will stick with this diet for the rest of their lives? Once you go off the diet and return to regular habits, the weight comes back on. Here's more information about the Atkin's diet. These are facts, not myths.
I was 250# and feeling terrible. I went on the Atkins diet and lost 35#in about 10 weeks. I felt most of the things that were mentioned in the article, lethargic, bored with the food and constipated. BUT I had lost the weight! Then came the second part of the diet, maintainance. I upped my carb count, mostly fibre, and lowered the fat intake. Since then (6 months) I have gained 3-5# back, but if I try I can get back to 215#.
The most important thing that I cut out of my former diet was processed foods. Bread, pasta, sugar and all of the pre-packaged fast and easy foods like frozen dinners, meal-in-a-bag and tinned meals. They are all full of sugar!
Now I eat more sensibly fruits and veg, chicken and fish, lentils and rice. Sometimes I go off the wagon, why not, life is short, but never to excess like I used to.
Wether the diet is healthy over long periods of time is something that will have to be studied. The fact is, I lost a lot of weight in a relativaly short period of time. I might not suggest this diet to an older person or someone with health issues, but for me, young and healthy, it worked.
The issue of what to drink was a problem for me as well. I finally settled on carbonated soda water with fruit flavourings which I made myself. It is also available in bottles sweetened with aspartame. The calorie count was about 10 per litre and the carb count was 0. I also drank a lot of tea.
The low carb diet does work for some and not for others. Pretty obviously so. Example being my husband and I. My husband lost 30 pounds within a month. I had lost 20. But, for me it was more trouble than it was worth. The foods were fine since Im a good cook and creative. What Atkins and all the others trying this diet should know is that it can cause gallstones for some. It caused me the worst pain I'd ever felt in my life. Luckily once I stopped the diet, the pains haven't returned. The high fat content just doesn't work for my body. So, beware. It will work for some, but for others it might end up just being a pain, literally!
Well since I posted back in April, I had been trying the Atkins diet..and boy is it true, that it will work for some and others it won't. I lost about 8 pounds the first week and I ended up putting on the 8lbs plus 5 more lbs on top of it. It's not for me....I went back to my doctor and discovered I have thyroid disease so I'm now on Synthroid medication for it.....It worked but unfortunately it stopped working for me because of the thyroid problem and I'm 40 years old. I had been wondering why I was going up in weight, then I would lose it then back up in weight no matter what I did or how I worked out or dieted. But Atkins to me was a solution and it worked the first week, when I saw I gained it back plus more weight, my mind then went bonkers, I then contacted my physician and he says I can still try it again after the medication takes it's toll in about three months. From research I gathered eating more appropiately and working out at least three times a week works for me...I've lost 5lbs since I've done this on my own.
Good Luck to those on the Atkins
