NFL KICKOFF LIVE 2003 IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
Sepember 4, 2003
By Ross Hollebon (www.BaltimoreRavens.com)
It’s finally Thursday, September 4, 2003.
If you’re sitting behind your desk at work right now reading this, the day probably can’t go by fast enough. The NFL season is upon us, with the second edition of NFL Kickoff Live, presented by Pepsi Vanilla, showcasing the New York Jets vs. the Washington Redskins.

Whether you care about the outcome or just want a certain player to score to get your fantasy team off on the right foot, the event is special because it counts and the NFL celebrates a new season.
Southwest of Baltimore, right down I-95, the Mall in Washington, D.C. is the place to be today as world renowned entertainers give the carbonated bottle that is being an NFL fan, a pre-game shake right before opening it and unleashing the eruption of the 2003 campaign.
Mary J. Blige, Britney Spears and Aerosmith are just a few of the names that will wave the green flag to let all 32 teams know it’s go time, starting with the Jets and Redskins at 8 p.m. ET.
If the weather scares you away from being a part of the organized madness, the rain could stop as early as 3 p.m., be sure to turn the television to ABC to catch all the action, from the first “Are you ready for some football?,” to Aretha Franklin’s rendition of the National Anthem before the ceremonial coin flip.
Over 25,000 American troops will be brought into Washington, D.C. by the Department of Defense to represent all of our troops, home and abroad, as both the NFL and America pay tribute to and honor America’s armed forces heroes.
So head down to Washington, D.C. or get all the snacks ready in the comfort of your living room, because later this evening either John Hall of the Redskins or Doug Brien of the Jets will give the initial boot of the pigskin to start another exciting season.
It’s not a bad warm up for Sunday’s real deal—the Ravens at the Steelers under the ketchup bottle.
Let it begin.
