There are a lot of things I don't understand about clothes in HP books. First of all, when Harry's at the Dursleys' he wears that shabby, miserable Dudley's old clothes. Is that all the clothes he has? Doesn't he wear something else beneath the robes in Hogwarts? And if so, why doesn't he wear that clothes at Dursleys'?
Anyway, what do the wizards wear beneath the robes? I mean... they can't go around in robes only... like good old Archie in book 4, on the Quidditch world cup, if you remember him
Do they wear special wizard clothes? And if so, how is it different from Muggle clothes?
I don't see wizards care very much about the fashion, and it's kinda unbelievable... i mean, it's unbelievable for a community with 50% female population just like any else, to be completely fashion-free.
Have you detected any more info about wizard clothes than me? If so, post.
The kids have uniforms under their robes, to go with the houses that they are seperated in. I don't think that the Dursley's would allow him to wear that clothing. They want him in whatever is a hand-me-down, and trying to make him be "grateful" for the fact that they give him anything.

But, doesn't Harry in one of the films wear an ordinary striped red-and-white t-shirt? I know there's a lot of things changed in films but still... And maybe it's okay for British folks to go to classes fully dressed, with a uniform and the robes on, in mid-June, i guess it's the climate that allows them that, but... here where i live, and i believe in many other parts of the world too, it's just inimaginable. Kids would go home boiled and roasted. Unless there's some spell that allows all the Mediterrean, African, Californian... wizards to shut off thermal effects of the robes during the summer.
I hope, for the sake of wizards who live in hot areas...

I too wonder what the wizards and witches wear. Mrs. Weasley and Gran Longbottom both wear dresses, but there seems to be some serious lack of fashion. You would think that there would be more going on with the cloaks, other than colors. Dress robes even sound boring.
Yeah I agree on that. I mean it's obvious JKRowling doesn't really appreciate fashion very much... it's more like she's making fun of it, when she dresses stupid characters as Umbridge in unusual robes or when she describes Muggle clothes shops and their displays.
But it's NORMAL for fashion to develope in any community where there are girls! I already see Lavender and Parvati designing new collections of wizards clothes...
i was also confused about that. in bk4, it seemed like alot of the older wizards (like Archie) had never heard of muggle clothes like jackets or pants. maybe robes really are the only clothing in the wizard world, but that seems unlikely.
