AIDS cure around the bend-maybe? post #1  quote:

Does anyone out there have any further information on the scientist who had to go through private funding b/c no one wanted to help his funding for the workings of a cure/vaccine for the HIV virus. His research showed nothing staggering in the caucasian population but showed something worth looking into in the african and asian population. This may not be the champagne popping celebration we were all awaiting but it is some piece of research or data that can bring us closer to that celebration.

Hmmn.. no idea..

I was most impressed with the research that I saw regarding DNA-based treatment. The premise was that AIDS, being a blood-born virus, has DNA where human blood cells do not. Someone was either proposing, or had had some actual, limited success in creating some sort of biochemical treatment that bonds to DNA structures and basically screws up their arrangement so that they can no longer replicate. Such a treatment in the bloodstream would be chemically inert to our normal blood cells, but would bond instantly to cells containing DNA, such as those found containing AIDS.

Still not clear on exactly how it does that though, especially given that DNA is kinda protected-like within the nucleus of a cell. And if there's a methodology around that, how would you keep such a bichemical in th bloodstream from going hog-wild on the rest of the cells in the body with human DNA, such as those that make up the blood vessel tissue, etc.

Anyway, I thought it was a really neat approach and it sounded pretty promising.

Smile; It confuses people.
