Laci Peterson's Ex-Boyfriend Doubts Scott's Story post #1  quote:

FROM KTVU News

Laci Peterson's Ex-Boyfriend Doubts Scott's Story

POSTED: 11:49 a.m. PDT August 4, 2003
UPDATED: 5:13 p.m. PDT August 5, 2003

ABERDEEN, Wash. -- Speaking from a Washington state correctional facility, the high school boyfriend of murdered Modesto schoolteacher Laci Peterson said he has doubts about her husband, Scott Peterson's contention that he told her he was having an affair.

William 'Kent' Gain spoke with Fox News' Rita Cosby over the weekend. He said he dated Laci when they both attended high school in Modesto and for a while when they were in college. Currently, he is incarcerated in the Stafford Creek Corrections Center in Aberdeen, Wash., for shooting his girlfriend.

Gain told Cosby that it would be uncharacteristic of Laci to quietly accept the fact that her husband had been unfaithful.

"You'd have to be an idiot to tell her something like that because she's pretty fiery and she's liable to give you a good piece of her mind," he said. "She definitely would not keep something like that from her family and friends...Considering the circumstances, they were going to have a baby and everything that was involved (with that), even if she decided to stay with him, it's not something she would keep to herself."

Laci Peterson disappeared from the couple's Modesto home on Christmas Eve, triggering weeks of highly publicized searches throughout California. Late in January, Amber Frey -- a Fresno massage therapist -- came forward and told a packed news conference that she had been having an affair with Scott Peterson ever since they were introduced to each other in a bar in November.

She has claimed that Peterson never told her he was married and that she only became aware of it after television news broadcasts of the search for his then missing wife.

In an interview late in January with KTVU's Ted Rowlands among others, Peterson claimed he had told his wife about his extramarital affair and that she was okay with it. Laci also never mentioned the affair to any family members or friends.

Gain said initially Modesto authorities were interested in him as a suspect.

"Maybe a month (after Laci disappeared), my counselor told me investigators were asking about my whereabouts and how long I'd been here (in prison)," he said. "They wanted to make sure I wasn't a suspect."

He said he would never forget Laci.

"She was my first love," he said. "I can't say that I'm not (still) in love with her...It's just one of those things you just don't get over I guess."

Peterson, 30, currently is in the Stanislaus County Jail being held on capital murder charges for the deaths of Laci and the couple's unborn son. He could face the death penalty if convicted. He has pleaded innocent to two counts of murder.

Scott has been held without bail since his arrest in April after the remains of Laci and their unborn son washed ashore in San Francisco Bay near where he said he was fishing on Christmas Eve when his pregnant wife disappeared from their home.

INTERESTING!!!

Poor Laci....Some women just have all the bad luck or all the wrong instincts in the world in picking their men...This BF looks a lot like her murderous and creepy husband Scott...according to the article this BF was Laci's only serious BF, for 3+ years, before she met Scott soon after breaking up with him

I wonder how abusive these relationships were...

According to the articles the BF was sweet and the Rocha's are in shock for finding out that the ex-BF is in jail..."quiet, sweet boy".....the news is full of these "quiet, sweet boys" becoming violent. I'm sure there must have been signs of mental problems, like anger control or inability to show true emotions, before the shooting by the ex-BF and before Scott killed Laci.

I suspect both are sociopaths, who act like the good, sweet boys just as society wants them to be so they get what they want, but who have a deep dark side to them that eventually comes out during an argument...

It's interesting the shooting happened Jan 17th ...just after the stressful holidays...the holidays bring out the worst in some people

A psychologist was on Larry King Live Saturday evening and reiterated almost the same as your analysis above. Unfortunately, people do seem to be attracted to one type of person and looks like both Scott and Laci's prior boyfriend had the same traits (quiet & sweet and noone could possibly imagine that someone like this could do such a horrendous crime. However, this is what a sociopathy does. And I also feel sorry for the Peterson's because apparently they don't and never did know what kind of a son they REALLY have (i.e., sociopath).

good post...this would not surprise me one bit...in this case the truth is hidden so deep it will end up biting its own a$$ when it finally comes to the surface

I guess I'm not watching enough TV...are they finally coming up with some new info?? keep us posted of any news coming up...I'd like to see some it's been awhile....

Just think ... only 21 days...3 weeks ...until some of the goodies are going to become public...just about as intense as waiting for Christmas when I was 6 years old...

I just wonder how the poor Rochas are handling this it must be just horrible for them to wait and wonder what horrible things they will hear...thinking about that just about makes me feel sick...it's hopefully going to put at least some kind of end to the speculation...until the trial ...if there is a trial...I sure hope no one screws up on their job ...I'm paranoid that somebody on the prosection side could be paid off to mess it all up...it would fit the way MG and the Petersons operate

Hypnosis used in Peterson case post #10  quote:

Hypnosis used in Peterson case

By JOHN COTÉ
BEE STAFF WRITER

Published: August 21, 2003, 06:38:39 AM PDT

A prosecution witness who resembled a pregnant Laci Peterson was interviewed using "hypnosis techniques" in a likely attempt to undercut Scott Peterson's defense in the double murder case, according to a source and court documents.
The woman, who owns a dog and lives near the Peterson home in Modesto's La Loma neighborhood, was roughly in the same stage of pregnancy as Laci Peterson when Peterson was reported missing Christmas Eve.

Two witnesses have said they saw Laci Peterson, 27, walking her dog after 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 24 -- the time her husband told police he left for a solo fishing trip.

Scott Peterson said he returned from the trip to find his wife missing.

Prosecutors contend he killed his wife and unborn son, Conner, sometime on Dec. 23 or Dec. 24. The 30-year-old fertilizer salesman has been charged with two counts of murder in the deaths.

Laci and Conner Peterson's bodies were found a day apart in April along the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, within four miles of where Scott Peterson said he launched his boat on Dec. 24.

After his wife was reported missing, Peterson told police Laci was preparing to walk the couple's golden retriever, Mc-Kenzie, when he left for the bay.

Two La Loma-area residents say they are sure they saw a "very pregnant" woman they believe was Peterson walking a golden retriever after 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 24. A third resident told police he clearly remembers seeing the golden retriever, McKenzie, at about 10:45 a.m. and may have seen Laci Peterson.

Investigators conducted a "cognitive interview where hypnosis techniques were used" on Kristen Dempewolf, court documents show. The documents misspelled Dempewolf's name as "Deppenwolf."

At the time Peterson disappeared, Dempewolf, 33, had shoulder-length brown hair and regularly walked her mid-sized brown dog, which is not a golden retriever, a source said.

Dempewolf gave birth to a boy on Jan. 10, documents show. Peterson's baby was due in mid- February, family members said.

Dempewolf could not be reached for comment. Her husband, Martin Dempewolf, 34, said his wife had been subpoenaed in the case and was under a gag order. He declined to comment further.

The hypnosis came to light when prosecutors responded to a defense request for information about hypnotized prosecution witnesses.

Investigators won't say why they used the hypnotist, but it could be to enhance her memory of what she was doing Christmas Eve morning. If she was walking her dog that morning, it could provide an explanation of what other witnesses said they saw that day.

California law lays out strict conditions for allowing testimony from hypnotized witnesses in a criminal case. The conditions include that the testimony is limited to matters the witness recalled and related prior to the hypnosis, and the substance of the pre-hypnotic memory must be preserved in written, audiotape or videotape form before the hypnosis.

State law also requires the hypnosis be performed by a licensed professional experienced in hypnosis, such as a medical doctor or psychologist, and not done in the presence of law enforcement, the prosecution or the defense.

It was unclear from the prosecution documents who used "hypnosis techniques" on Dempewolf.

Dempewolf is the second woman to emerge in the case who resembles Peterson, lived in the same neighborhood, owns a dog and was pregnant last year.

But the other look-alike, a prosecutor in a neighboring county, had her baby in October and said she did not walk her dog Dec. 24.

AG, thanks for the good post...according to that the hypnosis could be valid in the courts, so the witness could be about as credible in my opinion as those claiming they saw Laci...it's going to be interesting to see who is believable...

the prosecution must show proof beyond a reasonable doubt, and defense only needs to create doubt....I wonder what a poll would say how people view hypnosis....I'm sure a lot of people think a hypnotist is about equal to a psychic...both are usually seen by the public as entertainers.

nevermind what I said earlier

I just googled "hypnotist psychic" to find something about them...and this came up http://www.hypnoshows.com/moreinfo/info2.html

Hypnotism is Extraordinary Entertainment!

Although Stage Hypnotist and Psychic Entertainer Harrison Smith is fully knowledgeable in modern hypnotherapy and parapsychological techniques, his show is presented for its high entertainment value. Most of your audience have never seen anyone actually hypnotized in person. They will be amazed and delighted that this stuff really works*!

* will it work for Scott? or against him?

He sounds like a great entertainer. I'd love to go to one of his parties. I've seen it on TV where they hypnotize people from the audience. Also, plenty of people are hypnotized for weightloss, stop smoking, etc. I believe there are people with all sorts of unearthly powers (i.e., hypnotists, psychics).

Boy, is this trial going to be a doozie. Who knows what lurks ahead. I just hope the trial can be televised and not just reporters like the prelim.
