other parents may be on a power trip. they want to show their authority to their children because they feel inferior inside. some are just terrible disciplinarians and this is all they can do to compensate. spanking a child when theyre young and getting a desired response may condition the parent to think, this is how i need to treat my child in order for them to listen. counseling wont usually help abusive parents who want to change because they are typically stubborn, and if the child doesnt know that the parent is attending counseling, they will not be responsive to sudden, great changes in a parent. changing a disciplinary style is gradual and direct. you can talk about the parenting styles if the paper is for psychology.
