So what happens now will the African countries go back to being under the "radar" of CENTRICOM or PACICOM as it used to be or will they just go it alone and let the AU f**k up any future conflicts for them.

I don't know, but the African countries do not want the American military command(AFRICOM) on their continent. Lets solve that promblem first.
Well this is part of the problem is it not and the solution lie in it as well either the African countries accept Africom - they won't there choice, they revert to the old style of command - they might but if they do it brings into question what is / was wrong with Africom or they are left to thier own devices which is probably not the best idea when we see what has gone wrong in the past.

And if you had more than an encyclopedia's amout of history of Africa, you would understand why the African continent doesn't need any country's command.
or someone could just read the Britain's history with Zimbabwe.
Malcolm for your information I know enough about Africa to know that when countries in that region fight which by the way is a lot and which is normally based on some historical or relgious crap thousands and thousands of people die and are tortured. The war in DR Congo ( used to be Zaire) is responsbile for over 4 million deaths, the genocide in Rwanda. Soamlia, Burundi, Uganda, Central African Rep, Congo Brazzaville, Angola, Sudan, Sierria Leone and Liberia have all been involved in bloody wars either with thier neighbours or in a civil war in the past 20 years.
The whole idea of Africom was to prevent wars, and assist with political and economic stability and the African countries rejeted that, now thats thier call but when the next war comes around ( not if but when) probabl Chad and Sudan and thousands are dying and the AU are fuc*ing it up all over again people like yourself better remember why no one want to get involved. So far African nations have refused help in different conflicts from the UN, UN protection forces and peacekeeping forces have more often than not been refused entry the wrangle about getting them to Sudan is a good example and the blame they got for Somalia ( unjustified) and Rwanda ( justified). Funny how the countries don't want the UN to stop the wars but instantly turn to the UN for aid after the wars. Then there is NATO at least twice NATO has gone beyond it's mantra and offered troops to get peace in Africa both times it has been rejected and Now Africom, you cannot exaclty blame the world for trying to help but at the same time you now can't blame these groups that are turning thier back on Africa and letting them get on with it. Thbe sad thing is that foreign forces have had success when helping in Africa in 1999 100 marines and soldiers were sent to Sierria Leone to take out anti governement militia not only did they teke out the militan and quell the uprising but to this day they remain in Sierria Leone and help to keep the peace. So it can work.
The thing is in typical fashion the African nations are indecisive they have an option now they let each other be repsonsiable for Continental security ( becuse that has wroked so far), they let the Pacificom and Cenmtricom play a role ( which they have been doing or they use Africom ( which they don't want even though it is basically Centricom with a new name and more social objectives)
As for Zimbabwe don't blame Britain for that, you know nothing about that country Britain did some good for Zimbabwe and some bad Mugabe fuc*ed it up big time and he blames britain for it and it's blind fools like yourself that belive that animal do some reserach and see what he has done to Africa's jewel and what he has doen to the African's you apparently care about.
