Chris Benoit is dead post #1  quote:

WWE . com is reporting that Chris Benoit and his family have been found dead in thier home. At this moment federal investigators are looking into the causes of death and tonights Raw will be a tribute to a true wrestling genius.

I was actually saddend to hear of Benoits death as I liked the guy and although I hate to admit it, it would appear that foul play is involved. If that is the case then WWE must drop it's Vince story as it will hit to close to home and show huge disrespect to a man who gave his all for the WWE, ECW and WCW.

I suppose this is just where I would usually put such new here but have already posted a thread about this in the Breaking News thread. I was hoping to catch you and Hammerlock before you posted this threas here.

I was shocked and saddened to see this story and I actually had to question whether or not it was true, mainly due to the WWE's recent actions with the McMahon storyline.

It is a great loss to the WWE and the Wrestling world in general. Benoit was a true great and the world of wrestling will be worse for his loss.

More news on this story just appeared on www.Wrestleview.com. I have also posted this in the "Breaking news" version of this:

Scheduled to be at the Monday Night Raw taping tonight in Corpus Christi, TX are Linda McMahon, Eric Bischoff, Steve Austin, Jimmy Hart Ted DiBiase, Moolah, Mae Young and many others.

They were all scheduled to take part in the scripted memorial to Vince McMahon, but all plans have been scrapped and tonight's show will be a three-hour tribute to Chris Benoit.

The first of many tributes to follow:

From Gregory Helms

To my friend Chris Benoit R.I.P.

I was sitting here at my computer when I got a call informing me of the death of Chris Benoit and his family. Other than saying that my thoughts go out to to his remaining family, I don't know what to say. Chris had just called me on Thursday to check on me as he has every week since my surgery and now days later I find out that he's gone. He was my friend. This hurts! This f*cking sucks!!!! Rest in peace my friend! Love you!

News report from Atlanta Georgia;

Aprofessional wrestler and his family were found dead inside their house in Fayette County Monday afternoon.

Authorities confirmed that Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy and their 7-year-old son were found dead at the home on Quarters and Redwine roads in Fayetteville about 4 p.m.

Officials would not say how the family died, other than to say they weren't shot to death.

Benoit, 30, was a Canadian wrestler who most recently fought as part of the World Wrestling Entertainment.

The organization said on its Web site said that Monday night's broadcast of "Raw" on the USA Network will "serve as a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family."

A tirbute from Peter Sciretta:

This just in: WWE Pro Wrestler Chris Benoit and his family were found dead in their home. No word on what exactly caused the death, but I?m sure we?ll find out soon since the local authorities are investigating the residence.

I know this isn?t exactly movie news, especially considering Benoit is one of the few from that era of pro wrestlers to not try his hand at acting on the big screen, but we thought it was worth noting.

While I no longer watch wrestling, I was not only a wrestling fan back in the second boom period (aka Austin/Rock/Goldberg time), but also one of the first internet journalists that covered the ?sport.?

I had met Chris on a couple occasions and he was always a really nice guy. He not only loved the art and sport of wrestling, but also his family. It?s sad to see him go. From what we understand, WWE is holding a special tribute show for Chris Beniot and his family on tonight?s RAW on USA Network

Vince McMahon broke the news to the wrestlers backstage about the death of Chris Benoit and his family.

One wrestler who was present tells PWTorch that everyone was gathered for an urgent, impromptu gathering backstage. McMahon then explained the basics - that Chris Benoit and his wife and won were found dead. He didn't elaborate or provide any details, and may not have known any more himself. "I've never seen a locker room floored like that. Seventy percent of everyone was just floored like I've never seen before. Everyone is just sad. He was well-liked by everyone. No one ever had a bad word for him. He and Bobby Eaton, that's what people say about those two. He never complained about sh--."

We're being told tonight that police were dispatched to the Benoit home after receiving a call from WWE officials who were concerned that they were not able to get in touch with Benoit.

We're also told that police found the bodies at around 4pm local time and that police would not say how the family died other than they were not shot to death. It could have been carbon monoxide but we do NOT want to speculate on anything.

Vince McMahon opened tonight's RAW broadcast standing in the ring in an empty arena. McMahon explained that tonight was scheduled as a show centered around the presumed death of the "Mr McMahon" character, but with the tragic news of this afternoon the show would now be a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family.

Report from Atlanta:

News reports are quoting authorities as saying the death of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy, and son Daniel, is being investigated as a homicide. Furthermore, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution altered the paragraph of their article on the Benoit family deaths. The third paragraph of the article originally read: "Officials would not say how the family died, other than to say they weren't shot to death." The third paragraph of the article has been changed to read: "Officials were investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide." Furthermore, the lieutenant on the case, Lt. Tommy Pope, said the three were actually found at their home at around 2:30 p.m., not 4:00 p.m. like originally reported by the Atlanta-Journal Constitution. The lieutenant said results of autopsies were expected Tuesday.

I hope it's not a murder suicide because if it is it flies in the face of the Benoit wrestling fans knew and respected. Guess we will have to wait and see what the autopsy reports say.

Any reports on his other son and his daughter I know they are alive but are they hurt or where they not in the house at the time?

Seems like a lot of questions will be aksed.

I have to say I am glad that Vince made an appearance as the Vince nmurder plot has to come to an end now.

This is truly a sad moment post #14  quote:

What a blow to wrestling, Chris was a truly, dedicated wrestler, great competitor and a decent human being. I knew Chris when he was with Stampede Wrestling. I went out a few times with him, Ben Bassarab and Mike Shaw when I lived in Calgary. He will certainly be missed.
I just hope McMahon will have the common decency to give up his clown act and let the honourable people receive the tributes they deserve.

The following is from ABCNews.com:

Wrestling star Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and their 7-year-old son Daniel were found dead in their suburban Atlanta home Monday. The deaths are being investigated as a possible suicide and double homicide, authorities told ABC News.

Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department told ABC News that Benoit had missed several appointments over the weekend, leading concerned parties to ask police to do a "welfare check." When sheriffs arrived at the Benoits' home, they found the wrestler, his wife, and their son dead.

There were no signs of gunshot wounds or stabbing, according to Pope. Authorities are not ruling out other causes, such as poisoning, suffocation, or strangulation. Pope told ABC News that his department is looking at this situation as a "possible double murder, suicide."

Pope said "the instruments of death were located on scene," but would not specify what those instruments are or where in the house the bodies were found. Pope added the department is "not actively searching for any suspects outside of the house."

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. However, it could be weeks before there is a result.

Benoit, 40, was scheduled to spar against C.M. Punk in a pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston for the Extreme Champion Wrestling title. But Benoit canceled before the event, citing personal reasons.

According to sources in the Fayette County Police Department, police are working under the theory that the deaths of Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel was a double murder-suicide. WWE has also picked up on this story, but with minimal details.

In what has to be the most shocking part of the story, police are working under the theory that Benoit killed Nancy on Saturday, killed his son Daniel on Sunday and then killed himself on Monday afternoon.

According to an unnamed source in the department, Benoit was found dead in his weight room, Nancy was found dead in the living room and Daniel was found dead in his bedroom. Lt. Tommy Pope told ABC News that the "instruments of death were located on the scene" but wouldn't go into details about what they were and where they were found. Pope also added that the department was not actively searching for any suspects outside the home.

Update from the "Torch" post #17  quote:

-Shepherd Smith on Fox News, when introducing the press conference, referred to Chris Benoit as "this Chris Benoit character," ran down the ways each died, and said now steroids are suspected as having triggered his actions.

-Lt. Pope said after a call for a "welfare check" prompted by WWE, they found all three bodies in the home mid-afternoon. He said autopsies have been performed and it is being considered a homicide-homicide-suicide. They said he murdered his wife by affixiation as far back as Friday, then his son Daniel the next day, then hanged himself likely on Sunday. He said toxicology reports can take up to several weeks to obtain. During questioning, he said there was no suicide note. He stuck with the term "asphyxiation" for the way both Nancy and Daniels died. He said Benoit was arrested for DUI in the past. He said there were no calls to his current residence for domestic abuse. A reporter asked if steroids or illegal substances were found. He said a lot of prescription medication he received from doctors with what they believed were legal prescriptions. When again pressed on whether steroids were found, he said he can't give them a list yet. He then said there were anabolic steroids when asked a third time. Regarding motive, he said they would not go into that at this time. Regarding the text message, he said he text messaged a friend and the friend saw it several hours after it was received by his phone. He would not go into the content of it. According to the doctor, several hours passed, no more than a day, between the son's death and Benoit's suicide by hanging. The wife's body was found in the office area, Daniel in his bedroom, and Benoit in the basement home gym. He estimated close to a full day between killing his wife and son. He said there was no evidence of Nancy resisting. The doctor from the crime lab estimates Nancy died some time on Friday. He turned questioing over to Fayetteville County D.A. Scott Ballard.

-Ballard said he is struck by the fact that a seven year old boy is dead. "I don't think we'll ever be able to wrap our minds around it completely," he said. He said the timing was bizarre because of the time that elapsed between the deaths of the two victims and the suicide. "It struck me as somewhat bizarre that he would even be in the home with their deceased bodies for some time, but we don't know that; we haven't verified it." He said there was a Bible placed next to the bodies of each of the victims. He said Nancy was bound by her feet and wrists and there was some blood under her head in what he felt was a family room upstairs. She was wrapped in a towel. There were no such body treatments of the son, who was found in his upstairs bedroom. He said he had no idea about the motive. "I'm baffled why anyone would kill a seven year old baby. I have no idea about a motive." He said there was no evidence he was trying to hide the bodies. No 9-1-1 calls came from the house. He said he didn't know anything about Chris telling WWE he had a family emegency to deal with. He said at this point they are all pretty confidence it was a murder-suicide, they will "alert to any evidence to the contrary." He said they will reexamine everything when the toxicology reports comes back. He said it would probably more than two weeks, though. He reconfirmed steroids were found in the residence. He said he didn't know if there were firearms in the house.

-Fox News anchor Smith then summarized the press conference and what it reconfirmed or revealed. He said he missed "one of those PPV things the WWE folks do." He added: "We have reason to believe he was a steroid user." He said steroids were present in the home. "With a doctor's prescription - you bet - but they were there." He discussed the situation with reporter Trace Gallagher regarding "roid rage." He wondered how long it can go on and how long it can last. "We're look at three separate incidents of roid rage over the course of three days," said the reporter. Dr. Steven Garner was interviewed. He said roid rage can cause such incidents. He said there are very few documented cases, but there are strange stories related to steroids. He said, "There people develop psychosis and that's a total break with reality. They don't know what they're doing. They halucinate. They don't know what they're doing. They hear voices in their heads telling them to kill people." He explained that once a user get off steroids, his testicles cannot return to producing testosterone at a normal level and depression can result - leading to suicide with teenagers. A former homicide investigator was interviewed next. He said he has been on scenes where he's seen people trip out due to steroids. "They get this unbearable strength and they seem to lose their mind," he said. "If they drink alcohol at the same time, it adds to it. It's taken about six or seven officers at scenes I've been at to hold a guy down who was flipping out from roid rage." Smith said: "Think about this guy. This guy's sitting in his hosue with a dead wife, then he's got a dead kid, then he's dropping Bibles all over the place. Then he's killing himself. You can't even process that." The doctor said steroids mixed with other prescription drugs make it much worse. They went on to note that "60 wrestlers" have died under the age of 45. "It's astounding. Astroniomically astounding. Nobody really focuses on it because wrestling is kind of a circus, an athletic soap opera. We don't really care about the players, apparently, because this is a continual cycle or drugs, road shows, alcohol, and they're travelling 250 days a year. The more wild your show is, the more money you make. That in the end turns out to haunt you. The doctor said typically wrestlers take more steroids than their should. Reporter Trace Gallagher and Shep Smith agreed that WWE is "under the fence." They brought up the HBO Real Sports interview where Vince McMahon got mad at the subject being brought up. "I know it's entertainment and it's not regulated the same way professional athletics are, but somebody is going to pay hell if this turns out the way we think it is."

This is from Wrestleview.com:

The Associated Press is now reporting that law enforcement officials close to the current investigation have now confirmed that Chris Benoit strangled his wife Nancy with an electrical chord on Saturday, smothered his son Daniel with a bag on Sunday and then hung himslef in his basement/weight room on Monday.

In what is both shocking and rather gruesome details, Nancy's wrists and feet were bound with tape and blood was found under the head when her body was discovered. As recapped in the press conference held earlier today outside the residence (Part 1 and Part 2), a bible was found placed next to the bodies of both Nancy and Daniel.

The press conference also confirmed that Benoit hung himself with a cord in his basement weight room. While authorities didn't want to go into details about rumors of Benoit sending out curious text messages, it is believed that at least one WWE wrestler (believed to be Chavo Guerrero) received a text message on a delayed basis from Benoit. Officials are still remaining quiet as to what the actual text messages said.

Well I don't think there are going to be any more tears for Benoit. I would not be surprised if the WWE tried to carry on as normal as possible maybe cancel ECW and Smackdown and start again on Monday. This would give them enough time to carry out steriod tests and prove they are white than white when it comes to steroids and also gives them time to come up with new storylines somwthing which Raw and ECW really need because of these events.

as far as im concerned chris benoit can go to hell. there is absolutely no explaination in the world that is acceptable in this situation. just because people saw him on television and idolizes does NOT mean he isnt a murder you cant defend someone just because they are public figures. he killed a woman and a seven year old child. im sorry but u have to be a sick puppy to do something like that. from the sound of it u guys might think im not a big wrestling fan but i am. i can remember a similar instance involving benoit. it was in 2003 i believe benoits wife known as woman on television in wcw filed papers for divorce and claimed that there was domestic abuse going on later she then all of a sudden mysteriously dropped the divorce. im sorry but killing a seven year old child and women makes u a sick mother f*cker in my book and i know alot of u dont want to hear this but it is the truth

It?s not fair crapping on the people who made favourable comments on Chris Benoit because these were made prior to the actual story coming out.
Those who knew him are in total disbelief and since hearing the actual details, now find the disgust in Benoit?s actions.

If the people investigating the incident were honest and would have provided the actual details up front there would have been neither tributes nor kudos in any form, but all we heard was ?Wrestler and family found dead in their home.?

It would be nice to be able to look at someone and be able to tell if they are a serial killer or paedophile but we just don?t have ability to do so. As long as the person is obeying the law and contributing to society we have to believe in them.
Prior to last Sunday I had a lot of respect for Chris Benoit, but because of this incident, I now feel repulsion.

Well I think the toxicology reports might help to shed some light on this maybe he was on the steroids, maybe alcohol or drugs we will have to wait to find out.
I also think that police will be looking at the family situation of Benoit it is not impossible that his wife told him she was filing for divorceagain and he just snapped or something like that. I suppose it could be possible that they were sick he had taken something and in that state of mind he thought killing them was the only humane thing to do.

I don't think it was steroid releated I could be wrong. I always belived "roid rage" was a burst of anger and you acted very irrationally but if you look at what Benoit did it's diffrent. He murdered two people and killed himself in a 3 day span thats hardly a burst of anger and the killing was well planned out, he tied up his wife and killed her and then waited to kill his son later, if he was acting irrationally would he not beat them to death or something like that in one night?
Of course the text messages were very strange and maybe are a sign of mental imbalance.
I agree with Heck though the media assume that because he was a WWE superstar he must automatically be on steroids. I have seen reports of this on FOX, CNN, and ABC and they all mentioned steroids yet not one has asked WWE about it's policy on drugs and steroids a policy which I might add is pretty tough after the death of Eddie Guerrero.

Too true. Sign of the times. I bet Paris Hilton is involved somehow.
