Greatest Mistakes in Football History. post #1  quote:

What are the greatest mistakes in Footballing history.

For example a team letting a player go and that player turns out to be one of the best in the world.

Or basically any thing in hindsight that a team, manager or club have done that make you thing how stupid they were for doing it.

Just two to start:

Liverpool letting Brad Friedel leave for free. At Blackburn Friedel has proved himself to be one of the best keepers in the world.

Liverpool chosing not to sign a youth player by the name of Wayne Rooney.

Mike Martz made a huge mistake for making Kurt Warner try 50+ pass attempts in the 2002 opener against the Giants. It was horrible and was probably meant to get Kurt run out of St. Louis.

You did say football, right

Yes I did say Football...BRITISH FOOTBALL!!!!!

Soccer to you.

I'm English remember? From Pompey.

Anyway...while your here...What is the deal with the Chicago Cubs? I know nothing about them, their probably not even anything to do football ((either versions of it)) but every once in a while some American based company that has TV programmes in England will say something like "that'll happen when the Chicago Cubs win the world series." Are they utterly useless or something?

I know, I was just messin' with you. Have to back my American Football...

The Cubs are a baseball team. They haven't won a world series in nearly 100 years and haven't even been tot he World Series in about 50 years. They are the lovable losers of Major League Baseball.

They have pretty much sucked wind for as long as I can remember. A few years back it looked like they were going to the Series, only a few pitches away when this dude in the stands interfered with a guy on the Cubs catching a foul ball. From there the Cubs tanked the inning, lost the game, lost the next game and the series. Some say they are cursed.

There was the farce that was the golden goal remember it was meant to make teams attack but in truth they just defended and then there was it's ill fated brother the silver goal.

Al;so changing the offside rule to this whole active inactive crap sooner it goes back to the old style the better.

David Beckham forgetting his place at Man Utd. He seemed to think that he was the star and could do what he wanted and play as poorly as he wanted and get away with it. He forgot one thing however and that is that there is only ever going to be one winner at Old Trafford when it comes to inner-club politics and that is Alex Ferguson. Beckham was on his way just after the season was over and has been a waining star since.

Deigo Maradonna going to the 1994 World Cup in USA when he was a known drug abuser, knowing also that any player from any team could be tested at any time by FIFA officails for drugs. Maradona failed the drug test, was expelled from the tornament and the Argentines, feeling the loss of their greatest player, went out in the second round.

((Just to argue a point. Maradonna was a great player however if you watch him play in his prime then watch George Best play in his prime you will see that anything Maradonna could do Best did better, except cheating. The only reason Maradonna is talked about more than George Best is because Maradonna played for Argentina and Best played for Northern Ireland, one country World Cup regulars, the other never appeared once in a World Cup final.))
