So many options. Here is the Whid lowdown: I think Clay was trying to be funny and it backfired on him, what he did was rude.
I think Kelly had a right to get pissed. Also, what she said was about germs, not a homophobic remark.
I like old Clay and I like Kelly, so I just see it as a legitimate fued.
Rosie enters and says it's a homophobic statement, Kelly calls and (from my point of view) puts Rosie in her place, Rosie waits till she hangs up, and then starts to talk trash, so I hate Rosie. But I'v hated her for close to 5 years now, so I'm biased as hell.
Kelly Ripa and Rosie O'Donnell Fuel Aiken Controversy
ABC NEWS
Nov. 22, 2006 — First, Kelly Ripa went after Clay Aiken, now Rosie O'Donnell's going after Ripa. The three big stars are embroiled in some major celebrity beef. The fireworks began on Friday when Aiken, guest-hosting with Ripa on "Live With Regis and Kelly," jokingly put his hand over Ripa's mouth while she was conducting an interview.
Seeing that Ripa didn't appreciate his joke, Aiken said, "Oh, I'm in trouble." Ripa responded, "No, I just don't know where that hand's been, honey."
On Monday, Ripa took aim at Aiken's behavior.
"You don't put your hands on someone's face when they're conducting an interview. Even when it's for a laugh," she said on "Live."
Ripa's comment fired up comedian and "The View" co-host O'Donnell. On Tuesday's edition of "The View," O'Donnell called Ripa a homophobe.
"Now listen, to me that was a homophobic remark. If that was a straight man, if that was a cute man, if that was a guy that she didn't question his sexuality, she would have said a different thing," O'Donnell said.
On-Air Feud
Within minutes, Ripa was on the phone, fighting back. The following exchange played out live on the air.
Ripa: "Listen, I'm watching the show. Rosie, I love you dearly. I have to strongly, strongly disagree with you. I think what you said was downright outrageous.
O'Donnell: "Well, Kel, I come from my perspective, you come from yours. I love you. You talk on your show. I talk on mine. Say it."
Ripa: "He reached across and covered my mouth with his hands. He's shaking hands with everybody in the audience. And it's cold and flu season. That's what I meant. And to imply that it's anything homophobic is outrageous, Rosie, and you know it."
O'Donnell: "I'm just saying from where I sit as a gay person in the world that I have to tell you, that's how it came off to me."
Aiken, who has declined to publicly discuss his sexuality, has not commented on the clash of the talk-show titans.
"I think Clay Aiken is caught in between a rock and a hard place," said celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. "She's making his sexuality the hot topic of the day when that's probably the last thing Clay Aiken wants."
Still, Tuesday night on the American Music Awards, Aiken may have gotten the last laugh when he and Tori Spelling appeared together to announce a performance.
"I'll tell you where that hands been later," Spelling said, after clamping her hand over Aiken's mouth.
Nah, nothing homophobic about it, I reckon. Actually, my initial thought is she was making a joke about what he does at night when he's by himself as a lotta men do (hey, and women!). You could make the same joke to a straight fellow and it'd be just as funny.
I don't know what Rosie's on with this one. Clay hasn't come out and said he's gay, so he probably doesn't appreciate her propagating that rumor.
With that said, I don't mind Rosie. She doesn't annoy me as much as Rosanne did (if we're talking about chubby, female comedians here), and she had a pretty kick-ass cameo on Nip/Tuck that I thought was sweeeet.

Okay, first off, I really like Rosie... always have. But, I think that she put her nose in to something that she shouldn't have. There was nothing wrong with what Kelly said... and she's damn right... it's cold and flu season. Still, you don't just touch someone... esp someone that you don't really know, without their permission. So, Kelly had that right. The comment wasn't homophobic, at all. Sheesh. Rosie is causing problems, where they aren't needed. And, I'm sure that Clay doesn't appreciate it, esp with all the gossip of "is he, or isn't he... gay?" crap that's going around.

He's a bit of a dink for trying to cover her mouth though. I mean, honestly, I probably couldn't do that to most of my friends, let alone some woman who's on the same talk show as me. I think this Kelly Ripa person handled it pretty well.
Who is Kelly Ripa, by the way?

Kelly Ripa was known for being on some soap opera. When Kathy Lee retired from the Regis and Kathy Lee, morning talk show, Kelly ended up filling her place.
I think that she handled herself quite well. If someone just covered my mouth, I wouldn't be happy either. (Well, unless it was Lucy Lawless)

i think clay was just trying to be funny and it backfired. Rosie should have minded her ouwn business.
but at the same time, Kelly's not one to talk, well actually she is and thats what started this mess in the first place. but my point. she says noone should put their hand over someones mouth, and its cold an flu season and grems nd all that stuff. well shes done the same thing several times. regis has done it to her, as well as other guests.

Inside me lives a skinny woman crying to get out. But I can usually shut her up with cookies.
A friend is someone who thinks you're a good egg, even though you're slightly cracked.
Rosie totally "outed" Clay! She said"...if he was a straight guy, if he was a cute guy, if she didn't question his sexuality...." Like Rosie knows something Clay is hiding? Rosie is totally off base and totally wrong. She should should have kept her "view" to herself. I feel bad for Clay who obviously did it in fun, but Kelly had a valid point.
Leave Clay alone Rosie! When he's ready he'll say, but he doesn't have to say anything because big-mouth Rosie is outta her closet.
You're right lickety, she did out him. Though we can't know for sure if she knows Clay's sexual orientation, it shouldn't be for her to say anything. It's really uncool.
Nymphadora, awesome find that kind of adds a new 'twist' to this whole thing
