Lost... one island, or two? post #1  quote:

There are several theories out there. Some people believe that it's one big island, and that Sawyer was lied to, to manipulate them from trying to escape. Others think that there are two different islands, and that the Others have taken their three "prisoners" there, to keep them away from the rest of their friends.

What are your thoughts?

Some people (from the Lost message board) think that the monster is a security system, set up by the others, to keep those who crashed on the island away from where they live, and work.

Some people think that it's like Ben said... this island where the three are, is like Alcatraz. That they live on the big island, like we saw in the season three opener... but this smaller island is a place where they work, and do experiments.

Here's an interesting post, that caught my attention:

quote:
There is only one island and now we are finding out what the security system is protecting.

I believe that when Eko started North the system was activated. The person controlling the system knew Eko was a priest, knew that it could mentally muck with Eko and make him doubt himself and turn around.
However, Eko was not easily swayed. Then the system went into a second mode of attack.

All the attempts of the others, all the attacks by the security system do what? They make people turn around and run!!!!!

The system has then done it's job. Now we are finding out what happens when people stop running.

Ben lied to keep Sawyer in check and it worked. Sawyer told Kate and it worked. Jack aint buying it.
Why do you think they wanted that boat? If these fools go sailing around the island they will discover the truth.

In the season opener, we saw just how HUGE the island is...
When Ben showed Sawyer that other island... it was giagantic.
I'm not sure what I believe, yet. But, I think that there is a possibility that there are more than one island around, and that they have access to them.

Don't forget that it's being filmed in Hawaii. And we know there are multiple islands there. Let's say it takes 2 years for them to discover each island. With all the islands that Hawaii has to offer, there should be enough to discover to keep the show running beyond season 5 or 6. New Hatches, new dangers, new mysteries. New cast members too. When I saw the second island I thought "Oh great."

They're going to prolong this thing forever.

I can believe that there is more than one island, but I don't believe that Sawyer, Jack, and Kate are currently on a different island than the one that they crashed on. I think that Ben was lying to Sawyer about that to keep him from trying to escape.

Rousseau had a map of the whole island. You'd think in 16 years she would have noticed a second island.

Alex has kept telling sawyer and kate to not believe what they say. Maybe she means about there being multiple islands too?

and good point, Rousseau has been there forever, she must have been able to make it around most of the island and seen another one. Obviously she doesn't know about the other's residential area but who knows. If anything, the other island could be on the side of the others' housing... in the season opener, when the camera panned out from the houses to the entire island, do we see a hint of another island on that side?

I think it's all fake... all of it.
