LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Neil Patrick Harris is gay and wants to quell any rumors to the contrary.
"(I) am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest," Harris tells People magazine's Web site.
The 33-year-old actor said he was motivated to disclose his sexuality because of recent "speculation and interest in my private life and relationships."
Harris stars on the CBS comedy "How I Met Your Mother." He started on TV as a teen, playing the namesake doctor on the series "Doogie Howser, M.D."

You know, this came a day after his publicist denied it. So peculiar.
But good for him. I hope people just let it go and see him for what he really is from now on: the dude who starred in Doogie Howser almost 20 years ago.
Sorry, never seen 'How I Met Your Mother'

I know! Its the ultimate one up on his part!
The only thing is...how many photographers are going to be following his every move now in order to get the scoop on his private life?
Somehow, I hope that they just leave him alone....but that would be giving the press to much credit because we all know that they won't just let it go.

I was actually somewhat surprised when I heard this, but everyone else I knew was like "well duh." I always figured Wanda was a girl when she got with Doogie I like NPH. And now that this is out, hopefully no one will dwell on it. Why does it need to be such a huge deal, I mean he is what he is, it shouldn't change how people see him. Although it is gonna be funny to watch Barney hook up with chicks now hahaha. How I met your mother is GREAT and Barney is my favorite character. Good for NPH for punching the tabs right in the face...

Well, why would it be any different when a straight person plays a gay, and "hooks up"? It's no different. It's acting. Unfortunately, there will be people who loved NPH, and his show... but, will stop watching it, because they don't agree with someone being gay. He will be judged by it... but, he shouldn't. He's a human being.

I would like to think this would not change people watching this show. Maybe I am giving too much credit at this point, I dont know...but I'd like to think that people are more accepting (at least the younger generation anyhow)...I mean who cares about the idiot fanatics. These close minded people are really the minority these days.
Years back when Ellen was on, her coming out crushed her sitcom...but look at her now! She's bigger than ever with her talk show!
I would like to think that after all these years, people would not care anymore. One can only hope.
