I have a feeling it's going to be him who bites the dust in this episode. That can't really be considered a spoiler since it's only speculation. But... someone is going to die tonight.

I was very pissed off last night. Ekko was my favorite character, besides for Desmond and Locke.
With the exception of Bernard, who is never on the show anymore, all the tail section survivors are now dead.
And those two new people irked me. Something is off with the way they introduced them, like they are comedy relief. Too in your face. And Charlie cracking jokes about the Polar Bear.
I was happy that we got some more info on the monster, and it seems to kill those who are not "good". Ekko would not repent. And I guess Yemi was the monster.
This might mean that when Jack saw his dad, it was the monster as well.
It sounds to me like the island is where you go when you're on trial. I know it's an old theory, but Locke saying "Did you see it? I saw it too. A bright light. It was beautiful." "That is not what I saw." And look who dies.

I think the monster is a security device made my Dharma that got out of control, and kills anyone who is evil. It has some logic circuit that decides if you are good or evil.
It told Ekko it was time for judgment, and if he would have repented, I think it would have let him live. But, Ekko telling Locke it was after them next kind of shoots my theory.
I dunno, I'm into the show, I will watch it tills it ends, but they really did piss me off killing off Mr. Ekko for no good reason. I get it, that they want to kill some people off, to keep you on your toes, but they have whacked so many characters, it's like why are they even introducing these people?
One thought I had, don't know if it's related, but when Jack's dad was appearing to him, his body wound up missing.
And now, Yemi's body is missing. Almost like the monster takes the body, then assumes it's shape.
(I still think Jack saw the monster and didn't tell anyone)
Now, we see an Others funeral, and my first thought was it was just like the old Hindu ritual, you burn the body on the raft, but today I was thinking about it, and wondered if they go ahead and burn the body like that so the monster won't get to it.
I could be way off base, just something to ponder.

Very interesting theory. How did the Hindu's ritual begin? Maybe it was for the same reason.
I really liked Ecko too, but you know he'll make appearances on the show for at least a couple of years.
I'm still fixated on Locke's statement about the bright light.
Oh, and the other two survivors who's names I didn't catch, came off as an extra, like on Star Trek. I thought, "Hey maybe ecko isn't going to die, maybe they'll kill off some of these extras. Oh well.

The episode begins with a flashback from Mr. Ekos childhood, he is stealing from the church to get some food for his brother Yemi, but he is caught in the act by a nun. She immediately takes him into the church so Eko can give his confession for sinning, though Eko believes that he was only stealing so he could get some food for his brother, but the woman persists. Eko appears to have trouble with this.
It fades back to Eko, who appears to be in a comatose state, as Sayid, who has apparently gotten back from the two-day trip from the other side of the island, is checking on him. As he and Charlie are leaving, Eko is snapped out of his trance when his brother Yemi appears to him, telling him that it is time for Eko to confess his sins. Meanwhile, as Sayid and Charlie are walking away, the hut that Eko is in has now seemingly caught on fire, and Sayid races to put it out as Charlie pulls Eko out of the fire. Once the fire is put out, they are suprised to find that Eko is gone.
Meanwhile, Jack is invited by Ben to attend a memorial service being held for Colleen, the woman who Jack could not save. Jack takes this opportunity to talk to Ben about his spinal tumor, as he has figured out that it is him from his x-rays, asking him if he's had any symptoms, but Ben persists that he doesn't know what he's talking about. As the procession continues, Ben asks Juliet, who has also attended, why she told Jack about his x-rays. She replies that she did show him the x-rays, but she never told him that they were Ben's. We later learn that Juliet wants Jack to kill Ben in opperation, and that is why she showed him the x-ray.
Back at the camp Locke and Desmond discuss how they will rescue Jack,Kate and Sawyer, when Desmond reminds them that the hatch could not only be used for simply pushing the button, it oculd also be used for communication, and that they can use it to make contact with the Others. Sayid points out that the hatch exploded, and Locke suggests that they go to the other station, The Pearl, and see if they can get it to work there. When Sayid brings it up that Eko has dissapeared, Locke asks if he said anything before he dissapeared, and Charlie brings up that Eko was mumbling something about his brother. Locke immediately figures it out, that Eko is going back to the plane where his brother was left, right on top of The Pearl, and that they're all going to the same place.
In the end, Eko is killed by the smoke monster, who has transformed into Yemi's form. As he's dying, Eko tells Locke that "he's next".
"Man is a marvelous curiosity ... he thinks he is the Creator's pet ... he even believes the Creator loves him; has a passion for him; sits up nights to admire him; yes and watch over him and keep him out of trouble. He prays to him and thinks He listens. Isn't it a quaint idea." Mark Twain
What a good episode!! The eyepatch man made me jump. I don't think that he's an Other, because then he wouldn't be in the hatch. I think he's like Desmond was; stuck in the hatch for an undetermined amount of time. He knew that he was being watched, though, and he knew it immediately. I'm sure that the camera was hidden, so he must have been sitting there waiting for it to move
What do you guys think of Ben and Juliet and what they are asking of Jack? I think that Juliet is dangerous and way more manipulative that Ben. If Jack does what she wants and kills Ben, which I'm not sure he can do, because he's sworn to do no harm to his patients, then what will the Others be like under the leadership of Juliet?
The Black Smoke disappeared right before Locke came out of the woods and found Eko. When Locke saw the Smoke, he said that it was beautiful, but for Eko it was black and menacing. Did the Smoke leave before Locke could see it because it wanted Locke to keep thinking that it was a good thing?
What was everyone's take on the episode? I thought it rocked.

The Hindus did that, too? I know that the Vikings did. Really good theory, Whidden; that's something that I hadn't even though about. I did think that the Monster appeared as Jack's dad, but I didn't think about the Monster taking the bodies so that it can copy them. If that's what happens, then I bet you're right about why the Others give a burial-by-fire for their own.
