Driving Tests post #1  quote:

So every Country (I think...) requires you to take a test before you're allowed to drive. Usually there's a written and practical part. I always found the written tests to be pretty lame. If you failed it, you're a retard. That's all there is to it.

The practicals, sometimes you can understand how some people can fail them... though I've heard of people failing for really dumb reasons. A mate of mine failed because he accidently went onto the freeway and when the intructor told him to pull go back onto the main road, he thought they were trying to trick him into moving over the white lines, so he took that free-way entrance... then refused to pull over because he thought you couldn't stop on a freeway (kind of true, I believe).

The tests done on the street are the best, I reckon. The intructor gets to see in you real driving conditions, and is able to make a fair assessment of whether you understand the road rules and won't cause others harm. Here in Taiwan, and a few other countries, the examination occurs on a course... I think it's dumb, you reverse park, drive through some cones.... then drive in an S shape, then do the S shape backwards. What the heck's the point of that? How many times in your driving experience have you had to drive backwards in an S shape at 5km per hour?

My driving test was easy... I just went there, we drove around for a bit, 3-point parking and stuff, and bobs-ya-uncle.

Oh man, I was extremely high when I took my driving test (if my dad only knew), but I passed with flying colors. I had to do parallel parking, and aced it, like you wouldn't believe. We didn't have a "course" to drive... but, the instructors have like three routes to choose from.

Right, we had the same thing. I don't know why they don't do that here in Taiwan; I think they know traffic conditions just aren't typical, so they couldn't test people properly. Because running red-lights and illegal u-turns are the norm

hehe high, eh? Did you ask your instructor if he had some doritos, snickers or some **** like that?

Ummmmmmmm, I did ask him if we could go to a drive-thru. He said no, chuckled, and told me to finish the test. Dad took me out afterwards though, and I munched.
