Chris Columbus to return for last films? post #1  quote:

Though many fans had hoped for Alfonso Cuaron's return to the Harry Potter franchise when Yates steps out after Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, we could in fact see the return of someone else.

Chris Columbus to Return to Potter?
The good people over at JewReview caught up with actor Rupert Grint, aka Ron Weasley, and discussed both Driving Lessons and the upcoming Harry Potter films. During the interview they ask if he heard any rumors about Alfonso Cuaron coming back to direct one of the last films and Grint responds by pointing out that it could be Chris Columbus who returns to the franchise.

Now this could be huge; and I am not saying whether it would be good or bad. I loved the spectacle behind Goblet of Fire -- which is still the best book by the way -- but thought Prisoner of Azkaban, directed by Cuaron, had all the polish. Cuaron took the franchise, made it darker in order to match the books and, by the time all was said and done, made it even better. Most fans had hoped for Cuaron's return.

So now we have Chris Columbus, the director who started it all by helming the first two films.

(article I found on the net)

Chris Columbus would be cool, but he'd need to step up his direction a tad for the more adult-focused stories.

I agree with the article about Cuaron... at first I was taken aback a tad by his style, and the few things that were missing from the movie, but it's actually the best directed of the 4 movies released so far (in my opinion, of course).

I liked the way Hogwarts looked with Columbus as the director. It had more of a magical quality to it, but I am not sure he is up to directing such dark stories.

It did have a much more magical look, and feel. If he doesn't do the movie(s), I would hope that someone takes it on that has a true vision of the world of HP.

Yeah... the only really dark parts, I thought, were the dungeon, and where the Slytherins lived. Otherwise, I pictured a place that was alive.

That is how I pictured it too. I thought the Slytherin common room in the second movie was dead on. It had black leather couches and an air of superiority about it.

Columbus' Hogwarts did look magical, but I don't think directors can balance that kind of appearance with dark story lines...

I don't know about that. You can have the glitter of Hogwarts combined with the dark undercurrents of evil that are in the shadows. Even the brightest castle has shadows and dark places.

I'm totally with Sherry on this. You can make it be the magical place that we all know, and love, so well.... and have those dark currents flowing throughout the place. I just hope that they do it justice, and bring the book to life, and give us the true look.
