Alrighty folks I may be onto something here... then again I may not. But all I ask is to give this theory a few seconds of consideration.
So there's Neo, saying something along the lines of "I can feel them [the squids]" and next thing we know, he raises his hand and stands still.
Wtf? we said. Then, the squids get electrocuted. "WTF" again!
Here's what I think happened. Neo was tired of running from his enemies, and decided to remain behind and get captured. He expected those Sentinels to bring him to A.I. in person, where he could meet the Machine face-to-face, in the real world. So he raised his hand in surrender. He KNOWS they wouldn't kill him... they need him to keep the Matrix and their power supply!
Kinda like Luke giving himself to the Empire so he could meet the Emperor.
But sure enough, the ship comes along, and with the flip of a switch... BAM! The EMP kills the sents... and Neo, emotionally demolished that his plan failed and he must again run from his enemies and possibly never see the Machines face-to-face, collapses.
There's only one hole in my proposal: If I turn out to be correct, you must all send me money. Lots of it. I live in Bogota, NJ, and my real first name is Mike. You'll get my mailing address and last name if I turn out to be correct.
Does your "yes" mean that you agree with me? That entails the denial of the double/multiple-layer Matrix theory, of which you seem to be an avid proponent.
I need more responses!
The banana below, of course, represents my theory. Wonder how long it will last before getting picked apart here.
why would he say i can feel them if all he was trying to do was turn himself in? Plus, why then would he be rendered unconscious? No one else in the vicinity of your theoretical EMP was rendered unconscious. Plus, if i remember, there were bolts of electricty between Neo's hand and the sentinals, disproving the ship using an EMP.
I think that this theory is alot better then the whole double matrix theory. Maybe Neo could feel them, because he is connected to the machines because of his connection with agent Smith. Maybe the EMP also rendered him unconsious because of his conection with Smith. All I know is they better have thought of something good, because if any of the stupid theories i have heard, are right. I will never watch any of them ever again.
I completely disagree with the Surrender theory. and I also disagree with his development of superpowers in the real world. I personally think that When he was in the room with the Architecht that he never left the matrix and that he walked into a program designed to trap the one. another thing that is kinda bothering me is that everyone is assuming that everything you hear from a person in the movie is true. Trust no one.
I agree with the statement "Trust no one"
But it seems odd to me that only BANE/SMITH survived the first attack of the sentinels and is in a coma as is NEO. That seems to be some sort of foreshadowing to me. Obviously NEO and SMITH have a connection and whatever saved SMITH also allowed NEO to save himself. Albeit be putting himself into a coma. I still don't buy the matrix within a matrix theory. That would basically ruin two perfectly great movies with a stupid 180 degree about face. Plus it would discredit the great idea of human enslavement.
I think Neo has found a way to insert or hack his way in the sentinals, the same that they go in to the matrix. Explainng why he is in a comma. Sort of like cutting out the middle man (the matrix) in order to reach AI.

I'm glad this little fun idea has stuck in the minds of a few forumers. Just wanted to toss it around. Might as well defend it.
The thing is, as for Studlee42's points, most of them were already taken care of in my original post.
"why then would he be rendered unconscious?"
I had stated that the cruelly sudden mental anguish of losing his (possibly only) chance to become a willing captive of the Machines caused him to have a nervous breakdown and swoon. This, coupled with exhaustion and god-knows-what else may have put him into a comatose state.
And, as for the EMP knocking people out... since when does it knock people out? It kills electronics. And please don't tell me it would shock the electrogenesis of the human brain to the point of unconsciousness. Neo and Trinity were awake after the use of the Neb's EMP in the first film.
You may have it on the point of the electricity coming from Neo's hands... don't remember that but I may have missed that part. When I watch it again this Fri I'll look for that specifically.
And, just for sh*ts and giggles, when Neo mentioned that he could feel them, it was perhaps his way of stating his understanding that they were coming to capture him. Both sides need him alive. He probably isn't going to get killed by anyone other than the rogue programs. The humans need him to fight and the machines need him for his code. No danger in being captured by squids.
