Post Hey! We Can Do it Too! US Launces Intercontinental Ballistic Missile post #1  quote:

VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (AP) -- The Air Force successfully launched an unarmed intercontinental ballistic missile early Thursday.

The Minuteman III dummy warheads were fired at 3:14 a.m. and traveled about 4,200 miles before hitting a water target in the Marshall Islands.

The launch was delayed by a day because of a power outage at a radar facility that handles flights in and out of Southern California. The purpose is to test the defense system's reliability and accuracy.

Earlier this month, North Korea shook up the world by firing several missiles into the Sea of Japan, including a failed long-range missile.

The North Korean launch raised questions about the readiness of the U.S. missile defense system, which includes interceptors housed in underground silos in California and Alaska.

Of course the presumed logic goes - why should anyone make a fuss or object to the US testing missiles? It's not like they'd ever use them anywhere, is it??

Right now, the British government is trying to decide on updating it's own nuclear "deterrents". That's WMD as far as I know.

I sometimes think we are our own worst enemies.

How do you know that the United States would never use them?
I believe that the United States knows that it has the best nuclear equipment and so it is threating other nations to get rid of their nuclear weapons so the United States can make sure that it remains the best. Other nations wouldn't have anything to fall back on if their nuclear weapons could not be used.

I like this. It says 'see, ours work'. Unfortunately, I don't like the reporting. In the case of the North Korean test fire, they loved to throw the words in "with the ability to reach the United States", which got people all worked up as if to think that's what they were for... but it really was just a general observation of its ability... but it just sounds more scary.

When it comes to the US firing the missiles... man, they sound fancy!

The part about the power outage makes me laugh though.

Although you guys have a credible point in which I largely agree with, I think there’s a larger issue here.

N.K. is known for supplying their technology to rogue entities. Should they be successful in their endeavors then supply some terrorist outfit with said technology, the ending result could be catastrophic and maybe even touch off a world war.

Technically you guys are correct but in the larger picture, I think he U.N. is correct to be concerned with this.

Well, no one can argue with the US. They are the most powerful nation next to China (who's power is declining with a lesser population) while North Korea is a small nation with an either extremely intelligent or complete nutter of a dictator. The US is just wiping out all countries that hate them and would actually fire something at them! Just elimination!

North Korea, the rogue state. Shall its rein end by bullets and mortar, rebellion or just that corrupt guy finally loses it. Hm...
