"My daughter doesn't eat in the bathroom", says mom. post #1  quote:

Breast-Feeding Moms Protest Victoria's Secret

RACINE, Wis. -- A woman who said she was offended when Victoria's Secret staff asked her to nurse her baby in an employee restroom organized a nursing protest in front of the store as part of a national nurse-in.

About 20 women and children came out in support of Rebecca Cook in front of the Victoria's Secret store at the Regency Mall in Racine on Saturday.

Cook said she was shopping at the store with a friend last week when she asked to use a dressing room to nurse her daughter. When she was told no room was available, she offered to sit in the rear of the dressing room hallway but was told that was unacceptable, she said.

"They opened up their employee restroom, which is disgusting," she said. "I said, 'No, I don't eat in the bathroom and my daughter doesn't eat in the bathroom."'

A spokesman for Limited Brands Inc., the Columbus-based parent company of Victoria's Secret, said the company has a long-standing policy that allows mothers to nurse in their stores.

"In this incidence it was not adhered to. We regret that and apologize for that," said spokesman Anthony Hebron.

Complaints about Victoria's Secret employees by Cook and another nursing mother from Massachusetts sparked the national event.

In Ohio, about 15 mothers nursed their babies for about a half hour outside a Victoria's Secret store in the Cleveland suburb of Westlake.

"It's kind of ironic that Victoria's Secret, which plasters breasts everywhere, is offended at seeing breasts used for their intended purpose," said Anna Mauser-Martinez, who organized the Westlake nurse-in.

A year ago, lawmakers legalized breast-feeding in public places in Ohio.

In Wisconsin, State Sen. Fred Risser, D-Madison, introduced a bill last year that would have allowed women to breast-feed in any public or private place where they were authorized to be, but the bill died in committee in May.

Women who nurse in public in the state are protected from criminal prosecution.

Cook said the nurse-in was meant to make people aware that breasts are not obscene.

"I understand that some businesses might not want to open up a dressing room for a nursing mom because it's taking up spots for customers," she said. "It's about being told that it's dirty, that it needs to be in the bathroom and needs to be away in private. That's the mentality that we're trying to fight."

She added that the store's models and mannequins show more breast than the average nursing mom does.

Hebron said the company would treat the protest as an opportunity to remind associates of the nursing policy. Copies of the policy would be posted at employee work stations and store managers would talk to associates to remind them of the policy, he said.

eh, I will probably get hammered for saying this, but we get these stories every now and again, some high and mighty mother wants to flop out the goods and feed the kid right there in front of the whole world.

Man, oh man. The genral public don't want to see you use the crapper, or trim your toenails, or pick your nose, or any of the other very natural things you should do in the privacy of your home, or local restroom.

We don't want to see you give birth in the middle of the mall either. At least I don't.

This is stupid. The woman tried to nurse in the back of the dressing room hallway and was said it was unacceptable? It's a dressing room! The only people that are going to see her are other women, so why was it obscene?

As long as the mother puts a blanket over herself when she's nursing, I don't see anything wrong with nursing in public. The blanket hides everything, and it doesn't make people feel like feeding their child is something gross.

No, we really don't.

Some mothers just need to get their heads out of their own asses. You don't pull your boobs out in public on any normal day, so don't do it now that you have a kid. They've got mother rooms / diaper changing rooms for doing it in most shopping centres, use those - that's what they're there for. If there's isn't one around, you should've planned your day around your kid better.

In this case, if it was in Victoria Secrets and right up the back of the change room, then it doesn't bother me... it's not one of my typical hang outs... but I still agree with Whidden on this topic in general.

To be honest it seems like these soccer moms get their nipples in a twist over the big breast feeding issue. It's like, can't you drain some in a bottle before you pile into your Dodge Minivan? Why is it not indecent exposure because you're lactating? What if a gust of wind runs up my shorts and I get a stiffy, I'd get hassled for walking around the mall like that. Believe me. But that's all natural too. I'm all for tossing a blanket over it or sticking the kid under your shirt, but let's keep the milkbags in the fridge so I don't toss cookies, emmm-k? By the way, if Angelina wants to do it, by all means, may the world be your milky oyster.

I, personally, don't enjoy seeing women whip out their breasts to feed a kid.
Put a f'n blanket over your shoulder, and cover yourself, and feed the kid.

I can understand if she didn't want to go in the bathroom, to feed her child... IF the bathroom was dirty. But, ummmmmmmmmmmm, it's just another place to stand.

WHY they need to rant and rave, and then picket, and stand in front of the stores, breast feeding, is beyond me.

Get a better cause, and do something to help this world... not put your tits out for display.

Uh I like those bathrooms. Because I'm damn sick and tired of some 5 YEAR OLD BOY going into the ladies bathroom with mommy and sticking his head under the stall and looking up at me as I pee. Would kicking him in the face be wrong?

Actually, I think that you can get away with it, only in that sort of case.

I don't enjoy standing in line, in a bathroom, really needing to pee... and there's mommy, with her kid(s), trying to get them to go potty. DAMN IT... hurry up, there are people in line, and we WANT to go potty.

So, I guess that I'm all for those "family" bathrooms.

I love that movie. I was more slick though. I remember running underneath those giant clothes racks at the department store and sneaking peeks at JC Penny. I would dart through them like a flash. Excellent.

Yeah, my girlfriend doesn't mind too much. She overlooks any pervy past because she's a flaming racist.
