Author JK Rowling has said two characters will die in the seventh and final Harry Potter book, but she has been careful not to reveal which ones.
She told the Richard and Judy show that she had long known how the series would end, because she had written the last chapter "in something like 1990".
"One character got a reprieve, but I have to say two die that I didn't intend to die," she said.
She refused to elaborate, as "I don't want the hate mail or anything else".
Rowling said she could understand why authors might want to finish off their main characters in order to ensure they could never be resurrected.
She would not say if this would be the case with Harry.
However, she admitted she had "never been tempted to kill him off before the final because I've always planned seven books, and I want to finish on seven books".
This approach had meant she had been "lambasted" by several people, she said.
"I think they thought it was very arrogant of me to write the end of my seven books series when I didn't have a publisher and no-one had heard of me."
The author also told the Channel 4 programme she didn't expect to create a character more successful than the teenage wizard.
"I don't think I'm ever going to have anything like Harry again. You just get one like Harry."
On Sunday, Rowling attended the Queen's 80th birthday party at Buckingham Palace, and said she was "doing well" with the final book.
However, she did not confirm a publication date.

Okay... we know that either Voldie or Harry must die in the end, for the other to live. So, I don't think that she meant it would have been either of them. There are two other people... who she didn't intend to die, yet will. Now, that's not saying that it isn't a "bad" character... but, it isn't saying that they aren't "good" ones either.
WHO could it be... and for what purpose? Could it be Ron or Hermione? Will one of them WILLINGLY sacrifice their life, so that Harry can do what needs to be done?

Im sure they could be willing to risk there life ... if its as a direct attempt to save Harry ... just look at the veil room from the MoM ... infact it could be any of either the order or the DA, from the good side ...
J.K. Rowling said two characters will die in the last installment of her boy wizard series, and she hinted Harry Potter might not survive either.
“I can completely understand the mentality of an author who thinks, ‘Well, I'm gonna kill them off because that means there can be no non-author written sequels. So it will end with me, and after I'm dead and gone they won't be able to bring back the character.'”
Rowling wrote the end of book seven before she had a publisher for the first book.
“The final chapter is hidden away, although it's now changed very slightly. One character got a reprieve. But I have to say two die that I didn't intend to die,” she said. “A price has to be paid. We are dealing with pure evil here. They don't target extras do they? They go for the main characters. Well, I do.”
I heard some other parts of this interview, and she said something about how once she's dead, she doesn't want to have left the series open for someone else to petition for the rights to continue the series. Many are saying that there is a huge chance that Harry will die, to finalize the series. IF he dies, and Voldie doesn't.... there will be a lot of HP book burnings, I have a feeling.

Bob, good thought... and anything is possible. I believe that one of the deaths will be Voldemort, because if he doesn't die, there will be MILLIONS of people that are beyond pissed. They will feel somewhat betrayed.

I would be unhappy if Voldemort was alive after all this, but I wouldn't want Rowling to write something just because it's what her fans want. It's her world, and she needs to be the one who controls it.
That said, I will be pissed off if Voldie lives And if both Harry and Voldemort die, I'll be very angry if Harry dies first for whatever reason.
"Man is a marvelous curiosity ... he thinks he is the Creator's pet ... he even believes the Creator loves him; has a passion for him; sits up nights to admire him; yes and watch over him and keep him out of trouble. He prays to him and thinks He listens. Isn't it a quaint idea." Mark Twain
