"Desperation" The T.V. Movie post #1  quote:

I know it's kind of late for this thread but being in here got me to thinking. I read Desperation and The Regulators and was anxious to see what they did with the T.V. movie.

I was so disappointed in the movie that I almost cried. What a disappointment. What a shame. As I said before, I read the book and was so lost in the movie that it was pathetic.

He should have just left well enough alone.

((Sigh))

What about the movie did you like/dislike.

I know this is the book thread but this discussion could bring up the subject of the differences in the movie from the book. If it's not the right place please feel free to delete it and set me ablaze. Thank you!

Didn't know there was a post on this movie. I watched it a while back. It was alright, I s'pose. Not bad. I kind of wish there'd been 2 parts instead of 1 really long part, but what're you gonna do? I couldn't really think of anywhere in the movie they could give part 1 an intense ending...

I skipped it on purpose. If King is involved in anyway, the movie will suck.

He is a genius when it comes to writing, but his input with series and movies is suspect. The Shining, which is a very cool movie, he hated.

Yet he was involved with Kingdom Hostpitial, which sucked big time. Normally, if it's a big studio production, like The Green Mile, which takes his book and makes it work, I will go see it.

If it's some T.V. movie, in which he is involved, I will always skip it.

I agree, almost every T.V. movie he's made hasn't impressed me. Rose Red was pretty good but I think it was because it wasn't his book. I don't know. I just know that I about cried when one of the best books he's written turned out a T.V. movie like that.

I remember reading that he hated The Shinning mainly because he hated Kubrick, who'd call him at like 3 in the morning to ask him stupid questions.

Desperation really wasn't that bad. The dialogue wasnt drawn out and unnatural, which is common in Stephen King's movies. What else? The actors were all great. Story was straight forward... the thing I never get about these telly movies is that you can actually compact them into about an hour and a half to two hours... especially this one.

You forgot to mention Shawshank Redemption, Whid. Brilliant movie (one of the all time greats) based off King's story.

Shawshank and Green Mile were almost word for word, from the book. Almost nothing changed from Book to screenplay, that's why they worked well.

That's the way they should do screenplays, just lift he words off the page and be done with it.

The Langoliers was almost word for word, and that was just forced and weird. I like the movie, but it is surprising how often Dean Stockwell can just rant on and on about really outrageous crap and be completely correct.
