I voted 'hero' because I truly think that he had SOMETHING set up, ahead of time, with Dumbledore, or he did what he did, to save Draco from ever having to commit such a heinous, and unforgivable, crime. Then again, someone deep in my heart, there is a strand of hope and belief, that Dumbledore is still alive, and that Snape only pretended to kill him.

I'm with Lawless. I don't think Snape did what he did out of evil. I think he and Dumbledore had something planned the second Harry started at Hogwarts.
I have no idea. On the one hand, he killed Dumbledore and all that, and that's pretty bad... but people just explain that away with "he was told to"... which always just sounds silly to me. But then, he didn't kill Harry while he was escaping. Maybe he figured he couldn't, but on the other hand... seems like he was seriously trying to get Harry better prepared.
He still killed Dumbledore though................ the poopy head...
