This thread is for discussing any game or any world cup thing you would like. Some of the games that we will be following in our household, like the USA games, will have their own thread, and please feel free to start your own threads if you want.

I'm mad that Mexico won. I hope Portugal wins the group. Tomorrow the US plays, and I hope we do not get slaughtered by the Czechs who I think could win the whole thing.

Australia's first game is against Japan, which is fine. We can take them like we did in WW2 (what? Too soon?), but then we're up against Brazil... *nervous laughter*

Australia just finished slaughtering the Japanese team. 3 - 1

All 3 of our goals were scored in the final 10 minutes, which actually makes the victory all the more sweeter.

Some horrible officiating in the Aussie game, at least it evened out. Schwarzer was fouled on the Japanese goal, then late in the game a Japanese player was fouled in the box - no call.

I dont agree with some of the defensive tactics being used so early in the tournament. England, with 1-0 lead against a decent Paraguay team, packed it in and defended. Portugal did the same against a weak Angola side AFTER Mexico had already posted 3-1 win over Iran. England are still in good shape to win the group (thanks to Trinidad), but now Portugal may be forced to beat Mexico. I guess they figure Argentina and Holland will go through in group C, and they dont care which one they play in round 2

I am kind of looking forward to watching Trinidad Vs England next week and I predict that Scotland will knock a couple past England amd go through to the second round.

I agree on the officiating, it was piss-poor.

Towards the start of the match, the Japanese team were fighting dirty (especially number 3, I noticed, who was an obviously talented player, but I saw him shoulder barge, grab and shove players on 3 separate occasions in the first half). Towards the end of the game the Aussies had a few dirty moments, and a few that weren't their fault, but the moment I saw a Japanese player up-himselves on the shoulders of an Aussie player when they were both trying to head-butt the ball, I was just praying that they got theirs.

And even with their little dog good luck charm, the Japanese got beat.

In the Japanese's defense, their goalie was top-notch (despite letting 3 goals past) and they're good on the defense (despite letting 3 goals past).

I caught the last half of the Korea vs. Togo game. It was ok.

I was surprised that Brazil looked as they did, but I only saw the second half. This is a Brazil team that can be beat. Croatia made them work for it. I think so far the Czech Republic has fielded the strongest team.

I think that Brazil will pick up the pace in the next couple of games but I would doubt that Roanldo will play again, he looked like he wanted to be anywhere but Berlin. Still it was good to see Prso play so well.

Ronaldo was off when I came home. I was laughing because on an earlier U.S. soccer warm up show, Julie Fouty (?sp) was saying that in England they chant "he's fat, he's round, he cost a million pounds" when Ronaldo takes the field.

I have heard another chant about Roanldo but lets just say it a little more colorful.
