This comes from a co-worker, who reads tons of stuff on Lost. He has an article that had info on the show, right from JJ Abrams, and the other two who run the show.
Desmond will be back, either this week, or next (by season two's ending) and we will have his back story... and Libby's as well, because she is IN his back story. Hmmmmmmmm, was Libby a spy, or "other" or just someone who ran into Desmond?
Finally though, we are going to get info on Desmond.
Here's my theory (though, like most of us, we are just guessing, and not always right).
Desmond is an other. They (the others) knew that the plane was going to be crashing... and so, Desmond put himself into the hatch, to live, until the group was smart enough to find them. Once found, he ran off, to rejoin his group.

I had an old theroy I gave up on that Desmond met all of them at some point in time before the Island.
I still don't believe it that much, but if Desmond met Jack, and Libby, before the crash, then maybe he did meet some of them. He didn't meet all of them, cause only Jack seemed to know him.
I will very excited to see him back, it would be AWESOME beyond words if Des turns out to be "him".
Well, maybe Desmond ran away, wanting them to BELIEVE that they had to stay there, and do whatever. Maybe they've (the others) have been in the pearl, or elsewhere, watching what happens in that hatch. Maybe that's how they knew that "Henry" was there, in the swan hatch (if we can believe the diary that Dave is posting, from the Lost site).

Right.... but, what if Desmond was just saying that, to cause more confusion, on the part of the survivors? Or, maybe he will just be an unlucky man, who ended up on this island... but, he could be using that story, just like "Henry Gale" did as well.

No, he's not an other, Sher. You really have to see this last episode. Good thing that I've got it on dvd. Hopefully you could come and watch it. It was the BEST episode of Lost, that I've ever seen.
