Okay, yesterday I told you about the DJ in Memphis on KIX 106. I emailed him and he also received another email from another SP'er as well. His replies were not nice.
THEN, this morning he said, since Chris was voted off, only Katherine had a prayer of winning or having a career.
In fact, he said Chris is probably the only one who could sell his music.
He said Taylor could dance and all, but couldn't sing and wouldn't ever have a career as the American Idol, that he would fade out like Ruben and Fantasia.
What a jerk. I think he has no clue of the fan base Taylor has.
I would love for the Soul Patrolers to email him (nice comments, kill him with kindness about Taylor). I went to kix106 dot com and it brought up the radio station for me. I then went to "contact us" and did the drop down box for "Young and Elder". That's the one to email. He will get it that way.
If that website doesn't work for SP'ers outside of Memphis, google KIX 106, Memphis TN. You should be able to get it there. Please any emails he gets could help us. We need all the positive feed back in Memphis we can get. WRVR, 104 was very positive yesterday. Yea, to them. Let me know if you email the jerk, I mean Brian.
But Ruben hasn't faded, going into gospel just means you won't have as much mainstream appeal. The same thing will happen with Carrie Underwood, she'll go into country never to be heard again except by the people that love CMT. Fantasia, I hear about her doing shows all the time. I don't think any of the Idol winners have faded, they just don't cater to the entire American market, which is pop music, a genre that doesn't fit all the winners.
If Taylor wins, he won't be pop music, he won't be the music all the kids are playing, but his older audience will always follow him.

I dont necessarily mean faded as in gone for good....but as faded in the fact that, like you said, they are no longer in the all around spot like Kelly Clarkson.
I dont think the producers of American Idol were intent on people fading from the spotlight, so to say. I think their main intention was to bring people to the forefront and keep them there....not to have them there only to fade into some genre that most dont listen to.
Ruben' gospel album sold 500,000 copies. So what? He just outsold William Hung's album, which sold 195,000 copies.
I dont think the producers of AI had this in mind for those that won.
Of course thats just my opinion....I could be wrong. (Dennis Miller)

That's not surprising.
I would actually be interested in know the amount of albums each AI contestant has sold. Not just the winners, but anyone who was on AI, and put out an album, of any kind.

Not sure when these figures were updated. I looked them up individually...

She signed with Astral Records and has an album coming out in 2006.
Jim Verraros
Rollercoaster garnered a couple dance floor hits, including the Top 25 Billboard Dance Chart hit "You Turn It On." (dont know how many sold).
Jon Stevens

Jennifer Hudson

Her debut album due in 2007
Can anyone else add anyone I might have missed? And Im sure Ive missed some.

That really saddens me, to see that Diana DeGarmo's album only sold 200,000. If you haven't heard it, you should. The pipes on this little girl are amazing. Unfortunately, the label that signed her didn't give her good advertising, and a lot of people don't know her music.
Josh Gracin did a country album, and it's pretty good. I bought it, and have no regrets, and wish that he would put out another. But, I thought that it might have sold better. So, maybe that's why there isn't anything else.
I've wanted Kimberly Locke's album... but, I never remember it when I'm getting cd's. She's got this one song, that I just can't think of the name, and it's damn good. I love her voice and style.
I can't even believe that Nikki McKibbon has a deal for an album. Shocked, to say the least. But, maybe her vocals have improved.
You know, I thought that Ryan Star (remember her, from season one?) would have done something.... she was always wearing clothes that she "designed" with torn strips, etc... Maybe she went into doing clothing.
I think that RJ (it's either RJ or AJ) put out something, Christian. But, I have no idea if it took off or not. Never cared... didn't like him.

Diana DeGarmo was also on Broadway, so you have give it to her there, an artist is more than their album sales, unless of course you're Justin Guarini and that's all you do.
Kimberly Locke, Tamyra Gray, Jennifer Hudson, they were smart and tried to expand their market beyond music alone because the music world wants Gold and Plaitinum, else you're gone.

Thank you Mystic for the numbers. Once AI is over, Lazers Edge will release what Taylor's self made album has sold. AI will not allow them to release the numbers until then. It will be interesting to see how a word of mouth/internet CD sold.

What I found for these two:
Ryan Starr had trouble getting out of her contract with RCA Records, but has had a lot of success with her independently released single "My Religion", which reportedly sold over 360,000 copies. She is expected to release her debut album sometime in 2006 or 2007.
Christina Christian, EJay Day, and AJ Gil have all found little to no success after the show.

He actually made two albums already.
In Your Time (1997) and
Under the Radar (2005)
After AI started, the latter was made available at local music outlets in the Birmingham area. Hicks also was heard on Tapestry, a radio program on National Public Radio affiliate WBHM in Birmingham, in December 2005.

Yes I know about In Your Time. I have a copy of it and it is my favorite of the two albums. I also have MP3's of Taylor's band doing live shows. It is fantastic.
