When I read the book, I never imagined Audrey Tautou playing the role of Sophie Neveu. I never imagined Sophie to look like her, so crude looking. I thought that Annelise Hesme, another French actress should play her. Do any of you think Audrey Tautou is a good choice for Sophie?

Personally...I dont think either are good for the role...but we picture a specific person whenever reading a book, so the person you picture might not be the same person I might picture, and so on and so on...
Personally, I pictured a gal with auburn hair....after all, the character in the book has burgundy hair...
Why would someone picture a brunette?

I don't think neither is right for this role, I would like to see a more popular actress take on that role. But then again Tom Hanks wasn't a good choice either . I would've liked to see Tom Cruise play his role.

First off..Tom Cruise is too young to play this part...as in he looks to young..
And secondly...TOM CRUISE????
I hope you are kidding! I think everyone has had enough of this loser to last a lifetime.

truth is, no matter who they pick to cast the characters someone's gonna think it's wrong b/c we all have different pictures of the characters in our head. I think audrey was a good choice - b/c she's a great actress. I don't picture tom hanks either though - that's just weird. (and WHAT is with his HAIR?) I pictured someone more like dan brown - short, nerdy and wimpy. jean reno and alfred molina are good though, and Sir Ian Mckellan seems about right too.
I heard that Dan Brown actually pictured Jean Reno when he was writing that guy's character in the book. NICE!

Actually Jean Reno would not have been bad...I loved him in The Professional...the problem is that the character is an American...and Jean Reno does not have an American accent.
As for the actress playing this part...Im not saying she isnt a good actress...my point is that she doesnt fit the character in the books, lookwise.
He does play the captain though...and the captain is French...so that part fits him much better.

I found Audrey Tautou to be... pretty much wooden through a large part of this movie. The delivery of most of her lines was pretty stale, if you ask me. Ian McKellen, on the other hand, I thought played Teabing quite well.
