I really love all the characters in the show. Joss did such a fantastic job on creating this clever and witty world with equally clever and witty characters.
But, since I had to chose and it would be tacky to chose all of them, I picked
Willow
Xander
Andrew
Oz
I also LOVED Anya. She filled the much-need sarcastic scooby spot left by Cordelia and improved it.
"Man is a marvelous curiosity ... he thinks he is the Creator's pet ... he even believes the Creator loves him; has a passion for him; sits up nights to admire him; yes and watch over him and keep him out of trouble. He prays to him and thinks He listens. Isn't it a quaint idea." Mark Twain

Xander was cool, but it's like they tried to hard to find him things to do in the post high school years. It's like he's in the army for five minutes, then he's a construction grunt, then he's the construction guru.
The nerd crew was cool until they started getting killed. Bad writing.
Yeah, Xander's story line in season four was lame with all the dead-end jobs he was going for and his living in his parents' basement, but in season five he got his act together and was successful and rebuilt everything in Buffy's house a few times.
But I've got to wonder: if the windows broke as often as they did, why didn't they just cover them up with boards until they thought there was a chance they'd last more than a week?

Or he could've contructed something out of super-tough plastic, right? He did mention at one point that he was getting sick of installing windows. You'd think it would've clicked.
Anya is really awesome. It speaks a lot for Joss that he managed to realize that the chick who plays Anya had good comedic timing. Speaking of which, did anyone happen to catch her on the Howard Stern show a few years back? Sheesh, she's one dirty *****.
