Director: J.J. Abrams
Stars: Tom Cruise, Michelle Monaghan, Ving Rhames (Full Cast)
Studio: Paramount Pictures

The Plot: Plot unknown.

THE BUZZ: Jeez, the film's worldwide release is just over a month away, and we still aren't quite sure what the third mission is about. (Does Paramount have any clue?) The trailer only hints at what we already know: even Phillip Seymour Hoffman, as powerful as he is, looks unable to stop Tom Cruise.

M:I3 has been shrouded in weirdness from the moment it was greenlit. Stars, directors, and screenwriters have come and gone, and the whole production was reportedly threatened by Cruise's stumping for Scientology when he should have been promoting War of the Worlds (a period which yielded the priceless rumor that Cruise tried to brainwash potential co-star Scarlett Johansson). But when the pre-production hype settled and filming began, we took a look at the cast, which includes Billy Crudup, Maggie Q, and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, and realized that J.J. Abrams's directorial debut has little chance of self-destructing, even people are calling for a boycott of the film. Which is so cute!

P.S. Rumor has it the first trailer for Oliver Stone's World Trade Center will show before the movie.

I just saw a nice trailer, on tv, for this movie. Dang, Phillip Seymour Hoffman looks so awesome. He's a great actor, and I'm so happy to see him getting more roles now.

You didn't like the second one, eh? I will admit that it wasn't as good as the first one. But, I still liked it. Had some great scenes... esp at the end on the motorcycles! I just hope that this one doesn't suck. And, I wonder if a lot of fans of the movie itself will skip it, because a lot of people are saying that they don't want to see Tom Cruise, and support him, because of how much of a freak, and jerk, he's seemed to become.

First one was alright, second was forgettable. I was totally on board for this one until Tom Cruise lost his damn mind. I am sick of seeing his face. I'll probably see it still just because I am a movie geek and Summer action flicks get me all giddy.

I am sick and tired of all of Tom's antics, and his frakkin' rants about scientology. It's become that when he speaks, I hear nothing but... "blah blah Kate blah blah scientology blah blah" I'm tired of him.

Movie Promotion Confused With Bomb in L.A. post #8  quote:

A newspaper promotion for Tom Cruise's upcoming "Mission: Impossible III" got off to an explosive start when a county arson squad blew up a news rack, thinking it contained a bomb.

The confusion: the Los Angeles Times rack was fitted with a digital musical device designed to play the "Mission: Impossible" theme song when the door was opened. But in some cases, the red plastic boxes with protruding wires were jarred loose and dropped onto the stack of newspapers inside, alarming customers.

Sheriff's officials said they rendered the news rack in this suburb 35 miles north of downtown Los Angeles "safe" after being called to the scene Friday by a concerned individual who thought he'd seen a bomb.

Times officials said the devices were placed in 4,500 randomly selected news boxes in Los Angeles and Ventura counties in a venture with Paramount Pictures designed to turn the "everyday news rack experience" into an "extraordinary mission."

It was just that, at least for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department arson squad, which destroyed the box.

"This was the least intended outcome. We weren't expecting anything like this," said John O'Loughlin, the Times' senior vice president for planning.

The devices are to remain in the boxes until May 7, two days after the film is scheduled to open.

Saw this yesterday. Typical mindless action flick. Was funny seeing Tom Cruise running through Shanghai yelling "走開! 走開! 走開! 走開! 走開!"

Phillip Seymour Hoffman does a mad job as the villain. By the end, the plot resembled something similar to the first half of this year's 24. Ethan Hunt just isn't anywhere near as cool as Jack Bauer.

Oh, about the story:

Ethan Hunt, retired, gets engaged. At his engagement party he gets a call from IMA to meet them. He finds out an old aquaintance is in trouble, and they want him to go in and rescue her. He doesn't want to, but he finally does. They rescue her, but some stuff happens and it causes Ethan to want to go after the guy who did it all. He gets married, then goes off to kidnap the fellow responsible for the... thing that happens. So he kidnaps the guy, who gets help escaping by someone in Ethan's agency. That fellow then kidnaps Ethan's wife, and wants Ethan to steal something for him (this entire sequence was fantastic). Which leads us to a moment at the beginning of the movie where you see the evil fellow about to shoot Ethan's wife while Ethan is in restraints.

Yeah, it wasn't bad. I prefer my action movies with a tad more comedy in the less suspenseful parts. The gaps between the action sequences were mainly filled with a love story, unfortunately.

I heard a few reviews for this movie today and they all said this movie stunk big time. The action sequences are cool if you like fake stuff and the story is beyond bland and apparently, totally random it doesn't really make sense. I wanted to see this STRICTLY for Phillip S.H. but i'm double thinking it now.

I'm still president of the I hate Tom Cruise now b/c he's totally creepy club. That's reason enough NOT to see it.

The reviews I've heard were all pretty positive. Of course every critic is bringing up Cruise's off screen antics, but I don't think that should take away from his movies. I'll see it, I liked the first two.
