ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A federal jury found al-Qaida conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui eligible Monday to be executed, deciding that his lies to FBI agents led directly to at least one death in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
The only person to face charges in this country in the nation's worst terrorist assault, Moussaoui now faces a second phase of his sentencing trial.
The nine men and three women of the jury will hear testimony on whether the 37-year-old Frenchman, who was in jail at the time of the attack, deserves to be executed for his role.
The testimony will include families of 9/11 victims who will describe the human impact of the al-Qaida mission that flew four jetliners into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field.
Court-appointed defense lawyers, whom Moussaoui has tried to reject, will summon experts to suggest he is schizophrenic after an impoverished childhood during which he faced racism in France over his Moroccan ancestry.

yeah, lets send him to Ronald McDonald House for the summer.
The questionnaire given to the jury would have made it impossible for any other verdict. I think it will be stupid if they put Moussaoui to death; he's a crazy man and is only doing all this so the government will put him to death and make him a martyr. The best thing they can do is stick him in prison for the rest of his natural life. What really makes no sense is him placing himself in the 9/11 plot; it seems he used his testimony to insert himself into the event, rather than him being an actual conspirator, but oh well, they chose Virginia to get a death penalty and I'm sure they'll get it.
Life in prison is such a fitting punishment, a man that would go through with a suicide attack does not deserve death. Moreover, I think he's just lying to be put to death.

It's pretty hard to believe anything he says at this point. He knows he's not getting away so why not die?
I have no problem with that but I do have a problem with him being a martyr.

It truly is hard to separate fact as fiction, I think he wants to die to inspire others, you can't really inspire others when you sit in a cell for the rest of your life.

I keep reading about this, but what exactly did he lie to the FBI about (which seems to be what he's being tried for), and what exact role did he have in the 9-11 attacks? I honestly can't find that info anywhere...

Well I think his mission was to fly a plane into the White House with Richie Reid but that plan went South or they chickend out or something. I think what he is being tried for is witholding the info about the 9/11 attacks.
I think that's the case one of the others will probably know better than me but I think it's along those lines.
