Slobodan Milosevic found dead in prison cell post #1  quote:

Former Yugoslav president was on trial for war crimes at The Hague

7:35 a.m. ET March 11, 2006

BELGRADE, Serbia-Montenegro - Former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic has died, the U.N. tribunal said on Saturday.

Milosevic, 64, suffered a heart condition and high blood pressure which had repeatedly interrupted his trial in the Hague on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes during the bloody disintegration of Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

Wow. He died before they could convict him. I had no idea that he had a heart condition.

Yeah, he's had the condition for a long time, I was thinking this would happen because his health was the subject of news stories in the past.

Well he wanted to go to Russia for treatment but the Hague rightly refused saying that he would receive better or the same standard of helath care in the Netherlands. He was allowed better treatment than most though in terms of healthcare he was allowed his on personal doctor how many prsioners get that.

There are a few nationalists that want this guy burioed in the heroes cemtery for what ? lets face it atrocity aside theis guy was a LOSER he split the country up he lost Croatia, he all but lost Kosovo ( expected to declare independace in the coming weeks) and lost Montenegro without so much as a shot being fired? he was burned out of office had NATO come after and was shunned by the West and spent the last years of his life in a cell where exactly is the hero in all of that?

Now that he is dead we MUST capture Karadzic and Mladic.

Yeah he was till on trial by all accounts a verdict was expected on some of the 122+ charges in a couple of weeks.

It has also been reported that he may have comitted suicide which would not suprise me.

There is also the accusation that he was poisoned.

Yeah I just read that, that seems to be the predominant accusation when any leader dies. But then looking at the Ukranian President, it comes as no surprise either.

Offcial reports are now saying that the cause of death was heart failure ( unusual as I though Milosevic lacked a heart)

NBC News just reported that although S.M. died of heart failure, they are not certain that poison did not cause it. They will do more testing to see if there are any poisons in his body.

How could he have poisoned himself?

I would think that if you have an ultra high profile prisoner, you would want to make sure that he could not kill himself and that nobody else could kill him.

The death of S.M. forever clouds the fairness of the trial. Some will say he was murdered because they could not convict him. They will say the autopsy was a sham.

It does not help that the trial went on for a decade or so. Maybe it takes that long to go through the evidence, but the longer it goes, the more indecisive it looks. He certainly could have died of natural cause, but there is a lot to be said for not letting the trial outlive the defendant.

Well you can't predict when somebody is going to die and in terms of average life expectancy Milosevic was not that old.

The only reason the trial wen on for so long was because of the massive amounts of laws that he had broken , did you know the charge sheet runs into 122 pages. The reason that it also went on for so long is that Milosevic defended himslef ( he was a lawyer) and very much like Sadamms trial he ued it for personal and political rants the only diffrence is that the judges in the hague would not take any of his s**t. His illness and refusal to treatment did not help the length of the trail either.

All in all there are going to be a lot of his victims who like you said will feel robbed of justice especially so close to the verdict. As for me I am torn I am glad he is dead but I am angry he never paid for his atrocites.

Intrestingly I don't know if you heard but Milosevics co - accused also croaked it in a jail 4 days before Milosevic died.

Well I said this guy was a loser andf it appears that I was right. Milosevic it appears poisoned himslef by accident.

Most people know Miloesvic wnated to go to Russia for treatment but the Hague decided that Holland has better medical care and he could be treated in Amsterdam which Milosevic refused. Anyway it appears that his personal doctor gave him drugs that would worsen his condition ( so much for the hippocratic oath) and that would maybe convince the Hague to send him to Russia for treatement and no doubt escape. Milosevic however screwed up and either took the wrong dosage or mixed the drugs and killed himself, what an idiot.

There are arguements about his fuenral because of the location you see Milosevcs family want it in Belgrade and want a state funeral ( will never happen) but there are securty risks plus the fact that Miolsevics wife wants it in Russia ( where she and her son are exiled) because if she so musch as steps foot in Russia she will be arrested and sent to the Hague for her part in the genocide.
