Thumbs down Brittney drives with baby on her lap post #1  quote:

NEW YORK (AP) -- Britney Spears defended photographs showing the pop star driving with her infant son on her lap, saying she was dodging the paparazzi.

Several photos published Tuesday showed Spears driving her SUV with her son, Sean Preston, perched on her lap rather than strapped into a car seat in the back seat. Spears said she did it because of a "horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi."

The photos show Spears holding the wheel of the car with one hand, and her 4-month-old baby in the other. A person is shown sitting in the passenger seat next to Spears.

"I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger," Spears said in a statement released late Monday.

"I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm's way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us," she said. "I love my child and would do anything to protect him."

A spokesman for the Department of Children and Family Services, declined to offer any comment on the incident.

"We don't say who, what or if we're investigating," Stu Riskin said.

Sheriff's deputies, meanwhile, won't be pressing any charges, Deputy Luis Castro said.

"Unless a deputy saw the violation, there's nothing we can do," Castro said. "We don't even know if this took place in our jurisdiction."

The agency that snapped the photos, X17, said the pictures were taken "in a very peaceful context, in which photographers exhibited no aggressive behavior."

"We believe that the pictures speak for themselves," the agency said in a statement.

Spears gave birth to her son in September. He is her first child with husband of one year, former backup dancer Kevin Federline

What an idiot! If there was an accident her child would die. She could have gotten in the car, locked the doors, and put him in the seat. A few pictures are not worth the kids life. Seriously, child protective services should investigate this idiot.

Whatever... she's a total putz, and if there is proof that she was doing that, she should pay a fine. That's fricken illegal. If you've got time to drive around, dodging the paparazzi... you have time to let the passenger take the infant, and get them strapped in. Is your life so precious that you would put your own child at risk? GROW UP!

Absolutely unforgivable. I don't care WHO you are. I would let people take my pictures, if it meant that my precious cargo (child) was buckled in.

exactly. Hell, you know how it is trying to get a small kid in a car. The shot they had would have been of her butt while she buckled him in. She had an unidentified female in the front seat. Why couldn't the other woman have blocked the view on the other side? Hell, ever hear of putting a blanket over the baby Brit? What a total air-head.

She's obviously clueless. Lucky the airbag didn't deploy and tattoo that baby to her fake chest. That's just bad, bad, bad.

But remember back like pre-70's? I mean, I don't, but my parents tell me how no one ever wore a seatbelt or used a car seat. This is still a relatively newer standard in child safety. Not that I condone her white trashiness or think she's was kickin' it old school, just that the model of what's socially acceptable in that regard has totally changed.

I never wore a seat beat till I started driving myself. Never as a kid.

Mom would stick out her arm to hold me when stopping, as I stood in the front seat.

It was a different era. My dad and Grandpa would drive around drinking beer.

Course I grew up watching drunk driving commercials, and carseat ads, so I and everyone in my generation are educated.

Britney should know better. At least you think she would.

Younger celebrities have no concept of reality. Doesn't help when they're dumber than a bag of crap to begin with.

Though I agree with everyone, it must be bloody annoying to try and strap your kid into the baby seat with all the photographers around. Oh, she should have done it, that's for sure; but it'd have been a pain in the butt.
