Question Old series vs. New series post #1  quote:

I know there are die-hard old school BSG fans, but in my opinion these two shows are worlds apart. This new one is probably one of the best sci-fi shows of the past decade. The old one was a post-Star Wars cheesy 80's show that could have been a lot better. Thoughts?

You know, I followed the original BSG, like a religion. And to this day, I still love it. BUT, the newer version just kicks serious boo-tay! And, Lucy Lawless is a cylon! You can't do any better!!!

True.

And aside from the obvious advances in special effects, I think the writing on this show is really well done. To be fair, the effects on the original where really good for the time. Actually, that's mostly the reason the show was cancelled, it was too damn expensive.

Also I think that in post-9/11 era we can grasp the premise of the show on some levels. Plus it's not showing a super happy Star Treak future. It's just a knock down drag out fight to live, with some hot nuedy robots on the way.

Uh, when I was a kid, the oringinal was IT.

But I was a kid. The new one is more grown up, and smarter, and better effects, so I have to go with the new one.

But it's almost apples and oranges. there is so much time between the two, and they are so different.

I must say, I like the music from the first one better. Season's one opening music was cool too, but the music now in season two, sucks.

The old one came out when I was pretty young so I don't really remember it, but as I watch reruns I can see the 80's cheese factor a lot. This new one is super serious, the other one was like Starbuck and Apollo trying to get some nook all the time. Cylons were cheesey with the robo voice, but it worked. They are really, very different, to be sure. Other than the premise and names it's a totally different show.

I wonder if they should 're-imagine' Star Trek in that way. Wonder what it would be like?

Actually, I totally loved those cylon voices. It made them have the feel of absolutely no emotion. Know what I'm talking about?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, I wonder if they would do the original Star Trek.... because they've done so many spin offs... what would make it different?

Yeah, but the Cylons also sounded like that light up circle game, Simon. Remember that?

A new Trek show could be more gritty, have the universe not so full of roses and tribbles. I'd even have more aliens, like half the main cast would be some kind of alien. And not cheap aliens that look identical to humans, like Counselor Troi. I want big makeup and wigs, like a bad drag show

OKay, you're right... they did sound like that!! Still, it was cool, back then!!!

Oh... aliens that actually LOOKED real? Now there's a good reason to make it.

You think that the people who made KIT from Knight Rider also made the Cylons? They both had the red light that went back and forth. Weird.

Both had that same sound effect too.

the swoosh swoosh.

I don't know, Gene Larson was the BS GAL guy, I wonder if he did Knight Rider. Let me check.

Ok, I googled it, and Larson was the exec producer behind Knight Rider, so that's why it's the same.

thats funny stuff.

Trip out.

Did you ever watch the A-Team? You know Dirk 'Starbuck' Benedict played 'Face' on the show. Anyway, the A-Team went to Universal Studios in one episode (in reality the dumb show was filmed there so it's not like a stretch) and at the time on the Universal tour they had a Battlestar Galactica portion (which I went on as a child, thanks.) Well Face walked by a couple of Cylon's and gave this funny look at them and kept going. Good times.
