Tragic Kingdom was a better album, but Rock Steady was more commercially successful. They won more awards for and sold more copies of Rock Steady than they did for Tragic Kingdom. Rock Steady brought them more into the main stream.

They completely changed their sound. They should have stayed the way they were. They pretty much suck now.

Well Schmiggens I really have a hard time believing that Rock Steady was more commercially successful than Tragic Kingdom. I also think it is incorrect to say that Rock Steady brought them more into the main stream. Well maybe... I think they were at their high point when "Don't Speak" was released and went down hill from there. With Rock Steady they did enter the "main stream" though....by that I mean the main stream of garbage that pollutes the radio and TV. If "Rock Steady" truly did sell more copies than Tragic Kingdom than the world of music is in worse shape than I thought it was and I think its in pretty bad shape. But I wont get into that right now. When Return of Saturn came out I was thrilled to hear some new No Doubt and I was kinda disappointed because it wasn't as good as Tragic Kingdom, but its not as bad as Rock Steady. What is really sad is I "WAS" a HUGE No Doubt fan and used to by every single CD they would release. I have every album except Rock Steady including original copies of their self titled release and Beacon Street. But I don't think I would accept a free copy of Rock Steady.

Rock Steady moved 254,000 copies in it's first week and Return of Saturn" moved 202,000 copies in its first week. I looked for worldwide sales for both albums, but that was really all I could find, so I assume that the trend continued and Rock Steady sold more copies. That is to me meaning that it was more successful.

Both albums had four songs in the top ten singles charts and both albums went to Number 1, both albums won MTV Awards and similar awards, but Rock Steady won more awards than Tragic Kingdom.

So yeah, I stand by my statement that Rock Steady was more successful.

Ok wait a second Schmiggens your confusing me.... now your saying Rock Steady sold 202,000...so I guess that means Return of Saturn sold the number you quoted Rock Steady selling which was 254,000 which would make Return of Saturn more succesful than Rock Steady if I am understanding you right. But that was a different mistake than what I was speaking of. In your first post about album sales (quoted above) you said Rock Steady was more comercialy succesful than Tragic Kingdom which is incredibly incorrect. That was your mistake.

Nope. I've lost it. I have no idea what I am talking about anymore. Let me re-find the figures and I'll sort myself out. I am pretty sure it SHOULD say that Rock Steady sold more than Tragic Kingdom, because that's what I was trying to prove. But I'll look it up again and re-post. Sorry.

Im pretty sure that Tragic Kingdom is their best selling album by far. I'd almost be willing to bet the house on it. But Rock Steady probably did better than Return Of Saturn.
