Driven by a need for privacy and a deep-seated sense of humility, Alvar Hanso has released few details of his personal life to the public.
He first made his mark during the Second World War, providing munitions to various resistance movements around Europe. After the War, Hanso became the leading purveyor of high-technology armaments to NATO.
After decades of keeping the world safe through the development of sophisticated weapons systems, Hanso turned his attention to critical areas of science and technology - always searching for new ways to improve the human experience, and create a brighter future for all humanity.
Still running his vast network of companies, Hanso has set new standards for philanthropy and the support of pure scientific research for the betterment of the entire race.

Website Info
The website, http://www.thehansofoundation.org, is owned by ABC, the creators of Lost, as evidenced by the terms of use link on the foundation's website. [2] The domain was registered by ABC on July 18, 2005.
Most of the links on the site lead to a page stating "ACCESS DENIED", but a hidden link on the site leads to a page containing the orientation film seen in the episode "Orientation".
In addition, by adding an "s" to the end of "http", ala, [3] leads you to an encryted website containing a solitary webpage, [4]. Typing this into a browser leads to a site that seems to be updated periodically. The contents of the site have included:
Dot on polar bears1. A mouse on a block of cheese. In the background, a man can be heard singing "Here comes Peter Cottontail" while a squeaky voice, assumedly imitating a mouse, can be heard saying "Calling all rodents" in some sort of propaganda speech. The recording is taken from a numbers station (detailed here [5]).
2. The image of two polar bears, mirror images of each other, that criss-cross the screen. When they meet, an image of a red dot appears for a moment. Within the red dot are the numbers "2fen06".
3. A two-color stereoscopic image of a gas mask accompanied by reversed? sped-up? music.
The title the bigspaceship1.com web page is ".- .-.. --- -. --. - .. -- . .- --. --- --..-- --- -. .- -. .. ... .-.. .- -. -.. ..-. .- .-. ..-. .- .-. .- .-- .- -.--" When translated from Morse Code it reads "ALONGTIMEAGO,ONANISLANDFARFARAWAY"
which also appears to change and has also been "... --- -- . - .. -- . ... / .- / .--. --- .-.. .- .-. / .--. . .- .-. / .. ... / .--- ..- ... - / .- / .--. --- .-.. .- .-. / -... . .- .-." or "SOMETIMES A POLAR PEAR IS JUST A POLAR BEAR" (is the misspelling intentional?), . .- .-. ...- .. -.-. / ..-. --- .-. / .-.. .. ..-. . ("NARVIC FOR LIFE") and -. .- .-. ...- -.- / ..-. --- .-. / .-.. .... ("NARVK FOR LH")

Trivia
In Japanese, "hanso" denotes a counteraction or counterclaim.
"HANSO" is an anagram of "NOAHS", as well as, "SHONA".
In the clip, the city hall in Narvik, Norway can be seen.
Most information about the Dharma Initiative comes from an orientation training film that has been noticeably cut or damaged in places; it has a copyright date of 1980 and is designated the third of six such films.
The Dharma Initiative, developed in 1970 by University of Michigan doctoral candidates Gerald and Karen DeGroot and financed through The Hanso Foundation, was intended to study the nuances of human behavior in their sociological and ecological contexts through a communal social sciences research compound. The project's areas of study included meteorology, psychology, parapsychology, zoology and electromagnetism. B.F. Skinner, an American psychologist, is mentioned as an influence on the DeGroots' work. Skinner authored the book, Walden Two.
The orientation film focuses on Station Three of the Initiative (aka "the Swan"), originally built as a laboratory to study the unique electromagnetic fluctuations emanating from Station 3's area of the island. An unspecified "incident" early in the station's experiments resulted in a change of focus: A two-member crew, replaced every 540 days, is now under orders to enter the code 4 8 15 16 23 42 into a microcomputer terminal every 108 minutes. The film stresses the importance of adhering to the procedure by entering the code quickly and accurately, but gives no reason or potential consequences.
Synopsis
B.F. Skinner presents a fictional outline of a modern utopia in which human problems are solved by a scientific technology of human conduct. This book serves as a possible example of how our knowledge of human behavior can be used to create a productive social environment while preserving the chances of future generations to do the same.

Live your life like it's your last day on earth
Life is not how many breaths you take, but how many moments take your breath away.
Last season's episodes felt annoyingly slow. Maybe that took all the air out of HECK's enthusiasm for the show. At least this season things are picking up in terms of pace. The two episodes I've seen this season are much more exciting and interesting than last year. If HECK reads this, I think he should catch a couple episodes this year, and maybe rent last season's DVD's to see how things led up to this point. I'm probably gonna rent last season for just that reason.
I'm surprised Heck! doesn't like it, it's very Matrix like in it's background minutia.
um...
I'm sorry my brain just doesn't understand that statement.
How can someone NOT like Lost. Just... huh? Where am I? What's wrong with this world?...

Make sure that you do rent it, Sierradaddy... my friend loaned me her season one dvds, and I'm currently through the first 8. Already, the first few from this new season, make more sense, from what I've just watched.

The main thing that caught my eye, was the date on the pic of Alvar. 2003, instead of the late 70's.
Also, the monkey or ape that was over a hundred years old from the age experiments. That's a really well done website, neat to look at. I didn't get to far into it.

Okay... here's what I said, in a thread that I started today, regarding Lost website puzzles. From going to the Hanso website, this was some thoughts, and the date on the pic got my attention too.
I'm STILL thinking, for some damn reason that Alvar Hanso is the same guy who is Locke's "father" in the flashbacks. It just looks like him. I've thought that since I first saw him, and I still think that. Anyone else? Also, in the picture of him, it says that it was taken in Oct 2003... yet, his bio said that he "made his mark" during WWII. He doesn't look THAT old, in 2003, to have been around during that era.
Okay... on the Hanso website, under "Joop's Corner" there is a message, in the top right corner. It's got a picture of a strand of dna. The message is about the lifespan of chimps, and that their (Hanso) Life-Extension Program will someday help human beings achieve unusual life spans beyond the current norm.
Soooooo, maybe they HAVE achieved this, to some extent! Alvar doesn't look THAT old, so I'm thinking that they've found something that works.

I think Alvar looks like Leslie Nielson from the Naked Guns movies. (and Forbidden Planet)
I dunno, it could be Jacks dad, but I'm guessing not.
