Matrix peeps would appreciate this. The Wachowski brothers have adapted a 1980's graphic novel into a movie. They are the script writers and assistant directors. In essense, it is their movie. Produced by Joel Silver. It has our man Hugo Weaving as V and Natalie Portman as well.
Set against the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, V For Vendetta tells the story of a mild-mannered young woman named Evey (Natalie Portman) who is rescued from a life-and-death situation by a masked vigilante known only as “V.” Incomparably charismatic and ferociously skilled in the art of combat and deception, V ignites a revolution when he detonates two London landmarks and takes over the government-controlled airwaves, urging his fellow citizens to rise up against tyranny and oppression. As Evey uncovers the truth about V’s mysterious background, she also discovers the truth about herself – and emerges as his unlikely ally in the culmination of his plot to bring freedom and justice back to a society fraught with cruelty and corruption.
Hugo Weaving can make any line worth quoting: "Behind this mask there is more than flesh, there is an idea Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof."

i was afraid this might be bad, considering the wachowski brothers lost alot of credibility with me after the matrix sequels, but man oh man, that looks good.
Love is a very powerful force, especially when its formed into a coherent beam of death.
I was watching the trailer again and it has a lot of 1984 imagery. Like someone read the book, and decided to give it a hero who could overcome a system that Winston could not.
I don't know about 1984 imagery, but this film is based on a graphic novel written in the late 1980s. There are certainly similarities because both stories deal with totalitarian regimes. However the characters and outcome seem to be quite different.

The reviews are mixed. I don't care about reviews...people are stewpit.
Instead of actually making movies themselves...they nitpick really on a subject they are not qualified to report.
Yeah, reviews mean very little to me. I listen to what some of my friends say, those that have similar taste in movies, but still I usually always check it for myself, regardless.
The facist plot of the movie is interesting... will probably have some conservatives up at arms.

I dunno, I think I will pass on it. I was SUPER hyped about this movie, as I thought it was about a 1984 style government and it had Hugo Weaving in it, etc.
But I just saw a MTV news special on the movie, and they were interviewing Natilie Portman, and had a round table discussion, etc, and it's looks like a Bush Administration bash fest. From the color of the robe Portman wears in the torture scenes, to her black hood, trying to make parallels between Cuba detainees and Abu Greyb (however you spell it).
They were asking Portman about making a "pro terrorist" or at least a "pro freedom fighter" movie, and she started into that stuff about 911 wasn't her difining moment of terroism, because she grew up in Israel and saw it all the time.
Kind of rubbed this right wing conservative the wrong way.
One reporter asked Hugo Weaving, (who looked really neat in this super huge Hank Williams Jr. Beard) if the movie was meant to bash Bush, and Weaving said, "Yes".
I'm still a fan of weaving, of course I am, people have dey political views , but I'm not going to see a version of what the W bros think America is today.
I don't hate the movie and wish it ill will, but I don't plan on watching it either. Which is sad, cause I was super hyped about it, was going to go see it this weekend.
