Since Atheism is not a religion but just a denial of God's existance why is Atheism considered a philosophy?
I have heard the crude comments on Atheists beliefs and I am uncertain if any of them are true. Here are some of the comments that I have been hearing.
1.) Atheists are unhappy with life.
2.) Atheists have been abused and are lead to not belief in god.
3.) Atheists are all scientists.
4.) Atheists are stubborn
5.) Atheists do not wish to see the "light"

The one's who take it to the political arenas...Madeline O'hair etc and all the others who fight to remove the crosses from mountaintops and Columbine HS memorials and also fight to remove nativitiy scenes etc....
They just look like people angry at God, rebellious and angry.
If they truly believe there isn't a God, why do they fight so hard to remove symbols of Him and tear down others who do believe in God.
As much as they whine and complain about proselytizing Christians, they just sound like angry whiners with nothing else to do but hate and fight anything that has to do with God.
And so my point is....why do they buck so hard against someone they do not believe exists? I can see why an agnostic would do so, but an atheist? Makes no sense.
I have three atheists as my closest friends and they are very happy. In fact their life has improved after they gave up trying to reconcile their religious beliefs and their logical deductions. They are some of the smartest and nicest people I know. They are not whiners who complain about others, but they do sometimes debate as to why people are so hard on them just because they gave up their religion.

I completely see your point. Don't fight to get them removed, because in your mind these other people are idiot worhipping nothing. Why do they care? I couldn't tell you.
Maybe Atheists are not whiners but actually people who want people to come to their way of thinking. I think Atheists are the way they are because of the way they were born. Some times it doesn't work that way
I'll take myself for instance. I was raised by conservatist Roman Catholics and even went to middle school at a Roman Catholic school, but when I reached my teen years I became involved in Eastern philosophies such as Taoism, Buddhism and Hinduism which was quite normal since this was during the 1960s cultural revolution.
I have always considered Atheists rebellious but I do not wish them lifelong damnation as most faithful Catholics wish upon these people.

I am an Atheist in that I don't follow any organsied religion and don't neccessary believe that there is any higher power which created life, etc.
But I am quite happy for you all to believe whatever you want to believe, as long as you let me believe what I want, or don't want, as the case may be. Most religions are pretty unobtrusive and we could probably all get along if we just adopted the "live and let live" philosphy instead of everyone trying to convert everyone.
I am certainly not unhappy with my life because I have no religion, I am not a scientist, I ahve not been abused, I have not been encouraged to turn away from religion and I am not actively shunning "the light". If anything I would love to find the "light" and feel a connection with something greater than me, but I like logic too much and most religions are totally devoid of logic.
I am stubborn, but I don't see how this relates solely to atheism. Most religious people are pretty stubborn about their religious beliefs, probably more-so than most atheists I know.
It's not so much that I don't believe in something "up there", but that i don't agree with most of the organised religions. Sure, a lot of their teachings are good, but they can be taught without having to worship some higher power. Also somethings, as I've often mentioned (!), I don't agree with. Personally I think the world would be a better place without religion, but I'm not gonna force my beliefs onto anyone. Maybe discuss it with them, but I can't make them listen or change their minds.
It annoys me when people say that atheists are turning their back on God. If they don;t believe in him, it's probably because they don't see any evidence of him in their life, or have simply changed their minds. They're not angry with life, or God, they just don't believe.

I know...why people get so angry and upset over people not believing that there is a God is beyond me.
If it werent for such religious clash, there would be so much peace in this world.
This is where complete irony comes in. Religious people want peace and love, yet they are willing to fight others to force their beliefs on them.
Religion is the most hypocrital thing in this world. I find it pretty hilarious that so many people are willing to fight and fling their beliefs upon people for a religion that has no proof to back it.

It's really no *surprise* that Sweden, with the highest percentage of atheists in the world, legitimizes euthanasia.
Sweden legitimizes euthanasia to the extent that they "euthenize" handicapped and retarded children at the age of 12 if they cannot prove their "value" to society.
If left to the atheists in the USA, the same would happen.
Atheists are hypocrites too. Such euthanasia screams "peace and love," verdad chicatitas?

Just because they have a high percentage of Atheists doesnt mean that the atheists have made it a law to euthanize handicapped children under 12.
Unless you can somehow tell me that atheists are the only people in the government in that country, I dont see where your proof is that the atheists in that country are the ones purely responsible for that.
Belgium legalized euthanasia as did the Netherlands..are the atheists (in your eyes) at fault for these countries as well?

About only 46-80 percent (Big percentage gap...guess they dont really know for sure) dont believe in God in Sweden. Only 11 percent consider themselves athiests in that country.
Sorry...hate to tell you...11 percent doesnt = 100 percent.
Therefore....

Where did you conjure up the 11%?
Up above when it was discussing Estonia?
'
Yep...my bad...I just skimmed it too quick..
But at least I had sense enough to get more info on the percentage instead of blaming athiests for running the government and killing handicapped children...
Since there is only 17 or so percent of atheists in the Sweden...tell me how you blame them fully for legalizing euthanasia and killing handicapped children.
