I thinjk the story is that Keith knew that Johnny had based his performance on him and they're good friends so that's why he agreed to be in the movie/s.
I heard Keith has been dropped now, because of a conflict with the Rolling Stones tour dates. I am excited to see Stellan Skarsgard join the cast though as Boostrap Bill. I really like him.

Now, seriously.... Davey Jones? Mad, it'll be cool if the rest of the Monkees pop in to say hello ... or do you think they mean Davey Jones as in David Bowie?
I swear, I wish people'd think harder when they think up character names...
"I'm for it so we can put Nuclear power plants up there, and then beam the power back to earth on a laser beam." ~ Whidden
"Davy Jones' Locker is an idiom for the bottom of the sea — the resting place of drowned seamen.
The phrase goes back at least two centuries, since the first clear reference comes from Tobias Smollett, who wrote in The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle in 1751 that:
This same Davy Jones, according to the mythology of sailors, is the fiend that presides over all the evil spirits of the deep, and is often seen in various shapes, perching among the rigging on the eve of hurricanes, ship-wrecks, and other disasters to which sea-faring life is exposed, warning the devoted wretch of death and woe.
So, his locker is the bottom of the sea, the ocean’s depths.
The phrase Davy Jones appears often in popular nautical literature. There is no reason not to assume the term was common among sailors for many years."
Director: Gore Verbinski
Stars: Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley (Full Cast)
Studio: Walt Disney Studios
The Plot: When Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) finds out he owes a blood debt to ghostly Davey Jones (of locker fame), he desperately searches for a way to pay it off, or else face eternal damnation in the afternoon. And he's not above interrupting the wedding plans of Will Turner (Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Knightley) to do it.
THE BUZZ: Taking a cue from Lord of the Rings, Disney's shooting back-to-back sequels, so expect part trois next May. All the major players are back -- including director Verbinski and the original screenwriters -- so we're cautiously optimistic we won't have a Jewel of the Nile-style debacle on our hands, even if this looks to be a bit too romance-y for our tastes.
