i think your confused.. this is actually about the movie tht is comin gout, its actualy called RENT.. thats the name of the movie.. not about renting movies...
Alright, I missed this thread completely. I am looking forward to seeing the movie. I am a huge fan of the musical, and only heard yesterday that RENT the movie will be hitting movie theatres on November 23.
I am a total RENT head, and I can't wait for the movie. Just a chance to see Idina Menzel, up close and personal. She's got an AMAZING voice (though, you don't hear that voice, truly, until you've seen her in Wicked).

I have gathered the people together that I saw RENT on stage with in March. We will see the movie on opening night. My fingers are crossed that I won't be disappointed. I'm such a critic when they make musicals into movies.

I listened to "Without You" this morning, with Rosario Dawson, as Mimi.
She's got no emotion, or power, in this song. This was THE song, for me, for Rent. So, it's, in a way, ruined the movie for me. *sigh*

That is probably my biggest gripe when they TRY to make musicals into movies - they lose a lot of the power of stage presence, and it's almost always disappointing when your favourite songs aren't belted out the way they should be by the originators, and you're right, something like that does ruin an entire movie.
I especially hate, hate, hate it when they get regular film actors to pretend to be singers for those roles, like going with the original Broadway cast for a filmed version of a musical is a crime or something...
I visited the RENT movie website yesterday and heard some of the song clips from the movie - some of the songs are lacking something. Like you said...EMOTION!
