Actress Amy Smart was shocked when Hollywood legend Dustin Hoffman recoginzed her at a recent industry bash, labelling it one of the most thrilling moments in her life.
The 27-year-old beauty, who stars alongside Ashton Kutcher in their new movie The Butterfly Effect was thrilled when the Rain Man actor turned to chat to her at a recent party.
She recalls, ''I met Dustin Hoffman at a party and he goes, 'You're Amy Smart.' I said, 'How would you know who I am?' He goes, 'I like Genesis alot and I have heard your name running around my company'and then he walked away. I will never forget that moment."

Biological father is Steve Hackett, but has known Matt Salinger since she was three and was raised by him. His father is J.D. Salinger, author of Catcher in the rye and Franny and Zooey
Cousin is Jann Arden:

She doesn't look anything like Dakota Fanning in my opinion.
I remember when she had this interview with a cub reporter in New York City around 1992 she said, "If there's anything I wanted to do more, I wanted to act." So she does resemble Dakota Fanning in personality because they both love to act.
She did have some drug problems which started, I think, during the summer of 1988 when she was a small twelve year old child. She met up with some drug pushers in San Diego while her mother worked and she went to school. Her mother trusted these individuals to be good people but they were not and as a consequence, Amy picked up their habits.
She began smoking marijuana at the age of twelve and later moved into harder drugs, unlike the kind Dakota Fanning. She was almost arrested when she was fourteen for cocaine, but she escaped in her car which she was unlicensed to drive. When she was fifteen, her mother caught her freebasing cocaine in the bathroom and as punishment, she went to rehab on July 12, 1991.
A month after, she fled rehablitation and hid somewhere in Santa Monica for four to five months. In Januray of 1992, she came out of her hidding and her mother put her in rehab once again. She escaped further up north for three months and was found sleeping in a shack.
She went to rehab once again and did not run away. She came out a better person and in 1993 went to work as an actress.

Where did you get that info that Steve Hackett is her biological father? I'm curious. I don't know much about his personal life except that he has one son who he rarely mentions. I've never heard that he had a daughter. Please fill me in on this. Thanks.
