I read the books when I was a akid....I want to know why lucas refuses to make the last three. I mean, its supposd to be nine movies, thats the way he started it...so what gives?
I don't know that he WANTS to make them, to tell you the truth.
I remember reading something, years back, explaining why he isn't doing them, and I just CANT remember what it was.

I think that it was just too massive of an undertaking for him. The last 3 took ten years of his life, and by the look of his throat pouch, he's not getting any younger. I think that he just wants to relax and not worry about the huge pressure put upon him by his fans, regarding the final 3 episodes.
Now, just because he won't be DIRECTING them, doesn't mean they won't be made, with his input and ongoing consultation in SOME form... That's still a possibility.
How about Lucas as exec producer, with Spielberg as director? If there are any two people who understand each other's craft, it's the both of them. Spielberg would do the series justice, I think... The only question is, would Spielberg SIGN ON to do them?
Mark Hamill was interviewed recently talking about them... he said they may happen, though Lucas swears he wont. Who knows?
PS. If you listen to the Star Wars commentary, you find out that never really planned to do the 9 episodes like everyone thinks, rather he just wanted to make the first movie into something that seemed like a serial... which he did. The first 3 movies were written at once, expanded and cut into 3, but the rest aren't really products of Lucas's original concept.

I remember that Lucas said the story was about Luke and his father, but at first the part about Luke seemed more interesting, therefore that's what he put on the screen in 1977. Never said anything about the number of episodes. Imho, I think that two episodes would have been enough to tell the story of Anakin... but Lucas already wrote "Episode IV" on that rolling title, so...

I remember seeing Lucas interviewed and he said that as soon as he finished the 6 (which he has now), he was going to retire and spend more time with his kids. He kept saying that they had taken so much time out of him.
He has made his kids a pretty smooth billion dollar fortune from the last movie alone though.
I believe it envolves the breakdown of the Empire into the "Remenant," the emergence of characters like Grand Admiral Thrawn and Admiral Daala, the sun crusher weapon, the setup of the jedi academy by Luke on Yavin and the birth and growth of Han and Leia's kid, Jacen Jan, and Anakin.
Not sure if Lucas laid down any theme, at least publicly. He's acknowledged a lot of the expanded universe, like the Heir to the Empire trilogy, which rules.
I can't imagine what other major conflict there could be.
