Again, Ill say the same thing that I said when Scott had his name come up over his problem.
If he completed the program, and is doing better...why is this a problem?
I think its hilarious that people think that people should have to wear this type of "scarlet letter" because they made a mistake, and that no one is ever supposed to let them forget it.
There are many many actors and actresses and for that matter unfamed people who have had drug problems...if they get help and remain drug free, why do people have to keep them down by reminding them and further telling them that they should be always known for this.
Its good to know that there are people out there that will always point fingers and act as others judge and jury!
Whats the point of treatment programs if in some people's minds a person can walk out of one and still be considered scum? Its no wonder why there are people that say that they can never get their life back...because they will always have people like this hanging this over their head for life!
Of course thats just my opinion....I could be wrong. (Dennis Miller)

Just wondering... does anyone think that this "criminal charges" of drugs, for Bo, and abuse, for Scott... will affect them in the finals? Let's say one of them make it as the final two.... do you think that their 'pasts' will keep people from giving their vote, at all? I'm just curious.... for me, it wouldn't. I am basing my vote on who I like... but, I KNOW that there are people out there who vote based on much more.

I want to say that it will....but Scott manages to stay in somehow (though, I cant figure out how)....
I dont know...there are many people who are pretty forgiving of such stuff...but as you can see, there are others that will play this up to the public until this does affect their chances.
I always find these types of things suspicious when it comes out late. Notice how this wasnt an issue 5 weeks ago?
I dont know if it will be an issue or not...but nonetheless, its sad to me that someone would go to the lengths they have to keep this hush hush until now.
I, for one, will keep my votes going for Bo.....I refuse to allow this type of slam to these people change my mind. Im not that easily persuaded nor am I naive enough to let this type of press make my choice.

I really wonder if that rumour about the frat boys that are using some dialing maching to make massive calls for Scott has any truth to it... and all for a joke. DAMN!!!!

The charges were from 2001 and 2003. Honestly, I do not think he is Idol material after reading up on the charges on the web. AI is supposed to have an image. A drug user is not one. It is not like he was a teen who experimented. This was recent. Remember he is 28. Keep in mind that I also do not think that Fantasia should have been the Idol either.
For me, it doesn't make any difference. I'd still vote for whom I liked and not for whom I didn't like. I have never used drugs in my life, not even pot, and I'm probably one of very, very few like that, from what I've seen and heard. In spite of that, I can be forgiving of people who saw the error of their ways and are clean and sober now.
I have spoken to several friends and relatives since I heard about Bo, and find that not everyone feels that the American Idol should have any slack cut for them. They look at the term "Idol" as signifying a kind of a role model, one that everyone should be able to look up to. I don't take it that far. My wife does. She pointed out to me that Heather Locklear's kid was there this week, and that, at that tender age, he shouldn't have to be watching and rooting for someone who has been arrested for drug use. She feels that the contestants' backgrounds should be thoroughly checked and that anyone previously convicted of a crime should not be qualified to compete for a title called "American Idol." We almost always agree on almost everything, but I can't go that far. It occurs to me that both presidential candidates and our previous President had tried drugs, although not convicted of a crime.
It would be easy for me to agree when it comes to Bo, because I don't like the guy's style or singing, but I had to ask myself, "What if it were Carrie, would I want her disqualified?" My answer would be "No", so I guess what's good for the goose is good for the gander. I'm not sure all of America will agree with that, though. It'll be interesting to see how the votes go. It apparently didn't impact Scott (unless the voting was dishonest).
Why dont we just take all those single mother actresses and singers, and all the bands and singers that have done drugs (which includes many people in all various types of the industry) and throw them out in the street.
I mean how dare we allow our kids and even ourselves to watch them and listen to them on the radio and television.
Why not just take all those people that have or have had drug and alcohol problems and toss them out as trash, along with those women that choose to have and keep their kids after their husbands or boyfriends leave them....the nerve of these people!
Hmm...there would be about a handful of people left in the world after that.
Im sorry...I dont mean to go off or anything, but lets be realistic here....some are claiming that these people are supposed to be a certain way for AI, but those same people just happen to be fine with those same people in the industry that are already there?
Please...someone explain this rationale to me...because as of this moment, if you have ever (or still do) liked a famed person whom you watch or listen to that has had a prior drug habit (whether it be 6 months ago and they paid their dues) or happens to be a single mother...then the argument of the person being a specific type of person for AI is moot as far as Im concerned.
Unless of course you can prove to me that you refuse to ever watch a person on TV or listen to anyone on the radio that has EVER had this problem.
Of course thats just my opinion....I could be wrong. (Dennis Miller)

I'm sorry... I have to FULLY agree with mystic here. I mean, this was in the past... and we have ALL done things that are questionable in our lives. There are SOOOOO many famous people who are CURRENTLY doing things... but they are STILL idolized. And I'm not just talking drugs. I'm talking sleeping around, drunk driving, cheating on spouses, smoking, etc... tehre are so many things that people could say something about.
But, on the other hand... I don't think that it's "fair" that some people have been booted for their past, but if you tell them about it, you can stay. Make it one or the other. Because it's all going to have NEGATIVE publicity. Whether they know it up front or not... if the media gets a hold of it, it WILL be splattered all over the place. Make up your mind... one or the other, in my opinion.

American IDOL as in someone to look up to. That is implied in the name. IF it were another title like America Best Singer or something, then I would not care. Honestly, this show gives people a chance to showcase their talent. That chance should go to someone who uses better judgement than to do drugs and get caught twice. I think if there is ANY record, then they should not qualify. Kids watch the show and lets face it they do the majority of the voting. The Idol should be held to a higher standard. Too many elementary school kids watch the show. We have to think of them or at least we should be thinking of them. Saying "oh everyone does it" does not make it right. If I hear that an artist that I like has done drugs, I lose a tremendous amount of respect for them. I generally back away from their music from that point.
I understand where you're coming from, Sher... really... but, when we have so many in Hollywood already doing things, what do you do then? Do you stop your children from seeing a movie because the actor is having an affair with someone, behind his wifes back? Or stop watching American Idol, because Paula was drunk driving?
Don't get me wrong... I don't support that Bo was doing drugs... at all. But, if he's clean, and trying to stay that way, how can you wrong him for that?
