Okay... so, I just saw a preview about this game, while at the cinema today, and it looks totally awesome. Now, can anyone tell me about this game, because I'm seriously thinking about purchasing this. Is it for online connection only? Or, can you play it on your pc, without being online?

It's one of those big online games. You have to buy the software then pay membership to connect to this network to be able to play online with the rest of the world. It's like that Everquest thing. I think Star Wars has one, too.
HECK is very correct... you have to pay 15 dollars a month (I think) or buy a gaming card for like 30 and its good for 2 months. I know I'm gonna be getting it. Just a matter of time for my ass to get out of the chair I guess.
I'm NOT wasting my money for this. Bloody hell, the game is already $50.... why in the world would I PAY to play a game that I already own? Nope.... I will pass.
Thanks for the info, Heck!!!!

It's just a way for people to get together online and play in a big virtual world, under the role-playing requirements of whatever the game is.
I bought City of Heroes, not realizing that it was an MMORPG (Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Game). I got pissed, but I couldn't return the thing, so I made the best of it, and played it for about 3 or 4 months. $20+/mth, plus $65 + for the game (all Canadian) meant far too much of an outlay just to play a game that really doesn't get me anywhere in life.
I was still considering getting Matrix Online, but in recent days I've decided it's just not worth it. I wouldn't mind TRYING the game, but I'm not going to pay to buy it, and then continue to have to pay to PLAY it.
MMORPG, that was the term I was trying to think of.
The monthly fee can kiss off. I play games in cycles... for a few weeks here, then nothing for like a month. There's no way I would get my money's worth.
Another MMORPG, Everquest, I read this story where this guy's character was somehow erased so he killed himself. Time to unplug, ya know?
Seriously, I am a big Matrix fan, but even I won't be buying this game. I just don't believe in spending money on spin-offs and merchandise. It is not worth it. But from what I saw on DVD, this game is one of the most sophisticated ever designed.

Enter the Matrix was well worth the money, and if Matrix Online is on the Xbox I'll grab it.
For the Xbox Live, you only pay one yearly fee for all the "live" games. I guess that would include this one. Unlike Playstation and PC games, which often need you to sign up to the game's personal server.
Well, I'm only guessing that the matrix online would be the same, because that's the way Microsoft set the online system up.

I'm pretty sure that when it launches, it'll only be available on PC. Not even Mac has a platform yet for the game. I don't think it'll make it to consoles until possibly after XBOX 2 and PS3 are out, and that might also be pushing it, because these types of RPG's are hard to port over due to all the controls and such. I think they are still best-played on a regular keyboard...
I find it to be a rip off, that you pay a HUGE price for a game, and then, they ream you by saying that you must pay, each month, to actually PLAY it. I won't waste my money.... I don't care HOW good the game is.

I think the best solution is to build MMORPG's that also have a home version of the game included. You could bring in characters from the home version into the MMORPG, import-style, with all exp and abilities/skills that your character has gained. Since XBox Live is an all-access type of service, allowing full access to the servers for all types of games that have XBox Live support, the cost of playing the MMORPG becomes negligible, because most people are using Live to play other games as well.
With Playstation, everything is supposed to be free, so I don't think that it will see any port of major MMORPG's, unless those game makers stipulate that access to their servers will be available for a monthly fee...
In anycase, while I did have fun with the City of Heroes MMORPG, I don't think I'll be doing it again, until it becomes either drastically reduced in price, or more preferrably, free to play.
Yeah, I used to play, Diablo, Diablo II, and Diablo II: LOD, alllllllllllllllllll the time. Through my pc, on a server. I never paid a dime to play it live.... and you could also play a single player, without being online. That's what I enjoy....
