Title of this thread should be self-explanatory, I think. What's your favorite movie of the three original movies.
I always go for A New Hope, personally. A simple story line that lays down the foundation for something much bigger; fantastic effects for the day, and no ewoks.
"I'm for it so we can put Nuclear power plants up there, and then beam the power back to earth on a laser beam." ~ Whidden
I've always LOVED The Empire Strikes Back... just something about the characters... seeing them mature, Luke develop on his way to becoming a Jedi, and so much more.

"No. I am you're father. Join me, and together, we can rule the galaxy as father and son!" That line says it all. Empire is probably my favorite, though I used to not like the fact that most of the movie seemed...well..rather grey. (grey swamp, grey asteroids, grey ships...geee)
Jedi follows close behind, because hey, giant space battle!
Love is a very powerful force, especially when its formed into a coherent beam of death.
Dammit, so many people like Empire better. I don't get it.
The original Star Wars is hands down the best. The ending is classic... Luke is trying to save the rebels and destroy the Death Star... Vader is closing in on him... then out of nowhere Han comes to the rescue. Best-movie-ending-ever.
It's able to introduce all these characters, very well mind you, while keeping the story moving at, pardon the pun, light speed. Great dialogue, the brilliant Alec Guiness and Peter Cushing; R2 and C-3P0 banter; Leia and Han's quips; Obi-Wan's sacrifice. Come on!
You can say Empire had more character development, well, sure... the film didn't need 30-45 minutes of intro.
It goes with my theory about super hero movies, how the sequel is perceived as being better because it doesn't have to deal with the characters origins.
My gauge of a good sequel is: if you had never seen the original, would it still be as good? You could probably piece together what's going on in Empire, but the depth wouldn't be there, the meaning, and that seems to me the biggest reason people like Empire better. In other words, Empire is excellent because of A New Hope. Whereas the opposite is not true.
Sorry, I have had many a debate about this Don't get me started on people who like Jedi best. Frakin' Ewoks.
Yeah..i just watched Jedi last night. Geez...no wonder the Empire got whipped, considering an entire legion of its best troops got ganked by oversized teddy bears with rocks and arrows.

I do agree with you, Chris... but, I just love Empire. A New Hope is a great movie though... and I've seen that one, more than any other movie, ever. It will always be one of the three best movies, of all time. The original trilogy ROCKS!

LUKE'S FATHER!!! i mean, how cool was that. what a movie. the original trilogy is one of the best of all time, but empire (for me) is the zenith.
Shadow Stalker said this in post #7 : Yeah..i just watched Jedi last night. Geez...no wonder the Empire got whipped, considering an entire legion of its best troops got ganked by oversized teddy bears with rocks and arrows.
Yeah, and in ROTS, these are the same troops that blast their Jedi general's to death.
