She's the top-selling female artist of all time, but Mariah Carey's been missing in action lately. This week, though, Mariah made her first public sighting in some time, facing the world this week at a benefit for her charity, Operation Smile. And now, only "Extra" can reveal the three ways the superstar is planning to get back to the top.
First of all, Mariah has now put her career in the hands of Bennie Modina, the man who's launched dozens of stars, including Jennifer Lopez, and is now working with Ricky Martin. Modina has brought in some huge names to work with Carey on her new album, like R. Kelly and rap superstar Kayne West. The first single from the album is due out in the fall.
Mariah has just finished a 60-city tour, but along the way, she spent a lot of quiet time reflecting. "Extra" has learned she is now meditating, and wrote a lot of her new album on the beautiful island of Anguilla.
The third part of Carey's comeback bid involves her acting career. In 1957, Marilyn Monroe starred in "The Prince and the Showgirl," and now we've learned that Carey will be starring in a stage version of the movie in London.
She's also taking meetings with the networks to discuss a primetime gig. And we've learned she wants to get back into movies, preferably independent films.
It's clear that Mariah Carey is back on her game and ready to take the world by storm - again.
"I'm for it so we can put Nuclear power plants up there, and then beam the power back to earth on a laser beam." ~ Whidden
MARIAH Carey is coming back with a vengeance and has three separate plans to spice up her career.
The singing diva is putting an album together for her own MonarC imprint, with distribution by Island Def Jam.
Among the producers are R. Kelly and Kanye West. She also has plans to live in Madonna's literary world by publishing a children's book about an orphan girl who is bi-racial.
And as if that isn't enough, she's also after a starring role in a top movie.
Superstar diva Mariah Carey has signed an exclusive worldwide publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group.
The long-term deal will include 135 copyrights, including 14 of Carey's 15 number one hits on Billboard's 100 charts, and all future works.
UMPG worldwide president David Renzer has had his eye on Carey's catalog for some time, so after her deal with Sony/ATV expired, Renzer quickly stepped in to make Carey an offer she couldn't refuse.
He says, "There are certain artists that you always inquire about. I had been asking (Carey's attorney) Don Passman for years about her and when her catalog might become available.
"She was an artist who I had respected, not only for her vocal range but her songwriting."
I love Mariah Carey.. But... Her new stuff .. Isn't very good. Her new record label sucks.. The whole album sucked.. I only liked one song. She's starting to be one of those really quiet background voices for rappers. I hate that it has so much.. Wanna be cool rapper people on it. It sucked.
No_Justice writes "Erik Bradley, Music Director at WBBM-FM/B-96 Chicago has kindly shared his input on Mariah's new song "Say Something" with MariahDaily.com: "'Say Something' by Mariah, Snoop & Pharrell is going to be an instant mega-smash.
Radio should be receiving it within the next few weeks and the new CD is tentatively scheduled for first quarter 2005. Everyone will be so stoked to hear the lead single - it is THAT good. I'm more than excited to have Mariah back on the radio, especially with a song that I truly believe is going to be such a major success for her.
Early reviews from people that I trust have been stellar - many music industry insiders are calling this the project that brings Mariah back to the very top of the charts...we shall see but I certainly expect that to be the case!""
I hope Mariah can get a few hits out again. She has been through so much and she has an amazing voice, it's a shame that her personal life and stuff has gotten in the way.
Mariah Carey returns to her pop and R&B roots on her new album, 'The Emancipation of Mimi', albeit with major dollops of hip-hop. On several tracks previewed for Billboard.com, Carey offers less vocal acrobatics then on recent efforts, proving that less can indeed be more.
Doesn't matter who posts it. It still wouldn't make any sense.
What the hell does "The Emancipation of Mimi" mean anyway?
Isn't being emancipated being really really thin? Who's Mimi? Is that a nick-name for Mariah? Is she saying how thin she is?
divalamb writes "On Mariah Carey's offical website, she writes about the reason she named her album " The Emancipation of Mimi " :
"So obviously my album title has leaked out way before I intended. (the single isn't even out yet...hello???)
Knowing that the title was very different for me and might cause some confusion, I had a whole explanation to go along with the press release which was supposed to come out in February, but basically that got foiled."
