Hollywood dream couple Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston have separated after months of rumours about their struggling marriage.The pair said they had decided to go their separate ways but remain "committed and caring friends".

Ocean's Twelve star Pitt, 41, and Friends actress Aniston, 35, met in 1998 when they were set up on a dinner date.In July 2000 they wed at a lavish ceremony in Malibu.
In recent weeks, Aniston has been photographed without her diamond wedding ring, sparking fevered speculation that all was not well in the Pitt household. However, it appeared that the couple were back together at the New Year, which they spent on holiday on the Caribbean island of Anguilla with Aniston's former Friends co-star Courteney Cox and David Arquette.

The pair, who married four-and-a-half years ago, announced on Friday night that they were officially separating after months of speculation that their marriage was on the rocks. They denied that a third party was involved - understood to be a direct reference to suggestions that Pitt had become involved with Angelina Jolie.

Rumours that the couple were in trouble seemed to be confirmed when Pitt flew home alone to Los Angeles just 24 hours after meeting Aniston in London. She was then pictured without her wedding ring.
Reports of a split were temporarily quashed after the couple were pictured arm-in-arm on a boat cruise around the Caribbean last week, and hugging and kissing. But last night a source said the actors had spent the week planning their announcement.
In May last year, Pitt was photographed holding Jolie's hand on the set of their film Mr And Mrs Smith, prompting speculation that they had become close. Both denied they were romantically linked.
Then, when Aniston joined Pitt at Cannes where he was promoting the blockbuster movie Troy, she spent most of her time sunbathing alone at her hotel pool.
Pitt has made it clear he is ready to settle down. He recently spoke of his desire to have a child and also hinted that his relationship with Aniston might be in trouble, saying: "Nothing is ever what it seems, is it? I hate the notion of fairy tales anyway."

I held off on reporting this tragedy, because I wanted to give you, my readers, some time to heal. Was the split due to Brad's rumored affair to Angelina Jolie, or the fact that Brad wanted kids and Jennifer didn't. I don't think we will ever know the true story.
What's next for the duo? While Brad mourns what beautiful children he could have had with Jennifer, let us remember that he is Brad Pitt. He'll find someone just as gorgeous (hopefully someone who wants kids), and live happily ever after. Jennifer Aniston on the other hand, most likely won't fare so well.
