im in college and stuck between being a physical therapist or being a business major, to work in the market or at a large company n then just opening a place and hiring a physical therapist, anyone got advice? got a friend whos around 25 and works for morgan n stanley who makes 350,000 dollars a year, dont know any physical therapists who do that

I think this speaks for itself - you stand better chances of "success" in business if your measure of success is based on annual income. To do that as a physical therapist you'd have to do something like come up with an exclusive 7 step self-help program as seen on T.V. and try to sell the hell out of it or something - but even then you need to know some basic mechanics of business..

I agree with both. If you wish to be rich in spirit and rich in dollars, be a business owner who knows how to manage therapist...
As a business owner myself, I can speak from experience... BE PREPARED! There is more to running a business than just knowing your industry. Business management classes are a start, but if that's not an option, the libraries have up-to-date business management books.
You'll want to know a little bit about every area of your business, but you don't have to be an expert. Surround yourself with experts, and share your vision with them so they can help you run with it. It's extremely challenging, and worth it. You'll be responsible for complying with a lot of laws, so make sure you know what laws govern your industry.
Lawsuits are a big deal now, and they catch employers off guard because they weren't complying with laws they didn't even know existed.
I think the Law profession will outlast all the others. 5 day weeks-Plenty of legal cases that can only multiply with today's complexities of existence. And income with no upside limit.

I think you have rcd some sound advice and food for thought here.
There is a HUGE difference between hands on health care and health care management and you seem torn.
To help you make good decisons down the road my suggestion is that if you find it rewarding and a great personal satisfaction, you work as a hands-on physical therapist while continuing your business schooling.
This will give you the advantage of knowing the industry better and some insight into what the eventual competition might be.
Find the type of auxilliary health care company environment that you like best and that is at least moderately successful. If you decide to launch your own business, start at that level and improve upon it

The good thing about you if you are still asking about what you should do?, the good thing is that you are still young and you do have choices. You know being a Physcial Therpist is not a high paying job, it's the reward you get from helping people that is priceless. If making 350.000 a year is what you want to MAKE, have your friend hook you up with a job. But I will tell you, I have had some good jobs, but nothing is as rewarding as working for yourself. If you are a good physcial therpist, you can open your own clinic one day. The question I have for you is what is your passion? Money or Your work.
