India, home to the world's second largest HIV population after South Africa, is set to begin human trials of a new vaccine against the virus in January, a research institute said on Tuesday.
The country has over 5.1 million people living with HIV/AIDS and experts saying the number could quadruple by 2010.
I do not deny that it is a lot of people, but if you take the ratio to the population, it is quite low. We are approaching 1.1 billion people (curses, but what can we do).
And Heavens, protection has been promoted since a long time there. Unfortunately, many (mostly uneducated) people still don't use them because of ignorance or many times religious reasons. A corrupt government does not help either (It does not matter which government comes, they are all corrupt). And of course, sex is not the only cause of spread of HIV. Plenty of medical malpractice also goes on, mostly in the poorer sections of the country, which is about half of the population.
But I agree, damn.
