ARREST IN KELLY ASSAULT
The man accused of dousing R. Kelly with pepper spray backstage at a Madison Square Garden show in New York last month has been charged with third-degree assault.
Tyran Smith, a childhood friend of Kelly's former tourmate-turned-rival Jay-Z, faces up to a year in jail if found guilty.
The pepper spray attack was the last straw for Kelly, who quit the Best of Both Worlds tour after the backstage incident -- and he's now suing Jay-Z for a reported $75 million, accusing the rapper and his entourage of sabotaging their concert dates and breaching contracts.
As a result of the pepper spray attack, Kelly and his security guards were taken to a hospital in New York, where they were treated and later released.
