November 6, 2004 -- TARA Reid's mammary meltdown was the breast thing about P. Diddy's celeb-studded 35th birthday bash — but Paris Hilton tried to reclaim the red-carpet buzz by hiking up her gown and showing photographers she wasn't wearing any underwear.
The battle of the bold-faced blondeshells erupted when Reid's left breast popped out of her gown outside Cipriani Wall Street Thursday night. As paparazzi clicked away merrily, an oblivious Reid continued to pose. But her smile turned into a grimace when she realized her breast was exposed after a handler ran over and frantically pushed her fallen strap back onto her shoulder.
A red-faced Reid told PAGE SIX yesterday: "I took off my jacket and my strap fell off. It was awful. The photographers were like lunatics — high-fiving each other in front of me. It was so embarrassing. There were so many paparazzi and the flashbulbs were going off, I couldn't see anything.
"I didn't even know what was happening. I was like, 'It's not nice to take a picture like that. Please don't print the picture,' but they just laughed."
The pixie actress seemed exasperated by this latest burst of bad press: "I'm known as this retard . . . I want to grow up. I don't want to be the drunk girl. It hurts my feelings when you guys write stuff about me. It's not just me — it affects everyone around me. I just want everyone to leave me alone — let me graduate. It's like I'm in college and you guys won't let me get my degree."
Reid swears she has changed her wild ways: "I'm not crazy anymore. I'll be 29 on Monday and am celebrating at my mom's house in New Jersey. I didn't do anything. Paris seems to be able to move on from situations all the time, why can't I?"
Maybe it's because Hilton seems to thrive on public displays of decadence. Just moments after the paparazzi gorged on the glimpse of Reid's breast, Hilton pulled up her gown to show off her legs to the titillated snappers, revealing a hint of her panty-less nether regions in the process.
Inside, partygoers enjoyed gawking at Bruce Willis, Janet Jackson, Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, Usher, Ashley Olsen, Kanye West, Anna Wintour, Donna Karan, Victoria Gotti, Tommy Hilfiger, Clive Davis, Naomi Campbell, Tommy Lee, Sean Lennon, Rosie Perez, Milla Jovovich, Ja Rule, Star Jones and "Entertainment Tonight" babe Maria Menuonos.

It wasn't even that bad, it's not like she came off looking slutty and gross. She held it together and was poised through the whole thing. She shouldn't be too quick to say Paris has grown up, Paris is still a skanky ho.
I just saw a video of this and I feel so sorry for her, she looked good and was lapping up the attention, she was even laughing when her tits were hanging out, she honestly had no idea what was happening. Once her aide comes over and fixes her up and explains how long it had been like that and stuff, it almost looks as though she's going to cry. Poor thing. I feel really sorry for her.

Reid stepped onto the red carpet outside of Sean "P. Diddy" Combs' 35th birthday bash in New York on November 4 and posed for photographers, showing off her Christian Dior gown. But she was soon left red-faced, when one of her straps slipped off her shoulder, accidentally exposing her breast as cameras rabidly clicked away.
The images were quickly transmitted around the world.
The actress tells "Access Hollywood,": "I swear to you, I had no idea that had happened. I had a fur coat on, so when I took the coat off, the coat was heavy, and the strap came out with the coat. They were like,'Tara, let me see the dress, let me see the dress'"
"I didn't see the strap fall down, so I'm smiling like an idiot. ... Then, when someone came up to me, I was like, 'Oh, I'm so embarrassed! I just hated that the paparazzi were high-fiving each other and laughing. It was so cruel. But it happened and ... you move on.
It's not neccessarily that they're implying that SHE is lewd and immoral. I read it as being more that they're saying that THEY are lewd and immoral and if Tara ever gets the feeling that she wants to be lewd, then she should go there.
