What did you all think about Kerry mentioning Cheney's daughter, Mary, during debate number 3? I am just curious to know how everyone here feels since there has been so much discussion of it elsewhere.
When Alan Keyes called his daughter a selfish hedonist, he said absolutely nothing. When John Kerry mentions her name and is actually praising the vice president, all of a sudden he becomes a "bad man."
You could also understand the legitimacy of bringing the point up in the first place. The president wants to enact a policy that will discriminate against a group of people, and one has only to look to the second in command to see who is directly affected by such a policy.

BUT...the rest of the people believe that bringing up another candidates family member is wrong.
So..dirty politics...and nothing else..
There are plenty of bigger names he could have come up with. Ellen Degeneres, Rosie O'Donnell, Melissa Ethridge...
I could go on!
Hipocrisy on Cheney's part? Youve got to be kidding!
Alan Keyes did not call Mary Cheney a selfish hedonist...his actual statement:
quote:
"If we embrace homosexuality as a proper basis for marriage, we are saying that it's possible to have a marriage state that in principle excludes procreation and is based simply on the premise of selfish hedonism."
Mary Cheney was never mentioned in that statement. You should really get it straight before you make such accusations. Stop reading the news articles and actually find out the context in what way he stated it.
Look..you DONT bring up other family members in an election..there is a line one should never cross...

Just trying to make something of nothing, that's all they're trying to do, because they couldn't talk about the president's "wonderful" performance where every answer was "No Child Left Behind."
The former talk show host who has made two unsuccessful runs for the White House made the comments Monday night in an interview with Sirius OutQ, a satellite radio station that provides programming aimed at gays and lesbians.
After saying homosexuality is "selfish hedonism," Keyes was asked if that made Mary Cheney "a selfish hedonist."
"Of course she is," Keyes replied. "That goes by definition."

Dont change the subject of the thread ICB.
You know YOU were the one making something out of nothing.
Cant you even say you were wrong???
YOU WERE WRONG!
Posting inaccuracies and then changing the topic?
So pathetic.

Further, it wasn't Alan Keyes who uttered the name of Mary Cheney. It was the interviewer. He asked whether or not the universal rule Keyes laid out applied to Mary Cheney. He said yes, because it applies to anyone and everyone who takes the position that same-sex marriage is OK. He didn't condemn her as a sinner. That was an invention of the Associated Press , the largest news-gathering organization in the world, which disseminated this fabrication all over the planet to thousands of other news organizations

They are tyring to mince the words to change the meaning.
I love how they try to posit Keyes as th strong black man, while Obama is the plantation black. Yes, the Republican party has so much repsect for blacks, like running Jesse Jackson against Jesse Jackson, Jr., getting Keyes to run in IL, the way they ignored J.C. Watts, who still shows party loyalty. Yep, this article is reputable.
I'll add, 2004 feels like 1964 with all this anti-gay rhetoric. The bigots are on march.

Watching the debate I could see Kerry was contimplating if he should say anything about Cheney's daughter... He was looking downward at the ground, speaking slowly as if trying to convince himself NOT to do it... He knew it would create controversy...
I think it shows how low this man will go to become president.
Please pardon my pseudo-intellectuaphilisophicalismysiticality.
Keyes isn't running for president. Besides it has been an unwritten rule that candidate family members are off limits. Kerry broke that rule. Also whether or not the Cheneys bring her up isn't the issue.
Liberals don't see the problem, Why, BECAUSE THEY ARE LIBERAL!!! If they weren't Liberal then they would understand.
Also I think it's like when someone doesn't know when the make a racial comment.
If I said, "Colin Powell is doing such a fantastic job. You know he's a black man!" That is a racial comment and for Kerry to make the commment he did the way he did makes means he doesn't understand. And was Mary Cheney the only Gay person he knows? Why not use someone who has come out publically like Rosey, or Ellen?
Folks, It's just wrong and proves how out of touch John Kerry is.

Ah yes, WorldNetDaily, such a reputable source.
Whats even more sad is that you think your news sources are more credible than others you dont agree with.
Take the news at what it is...
Do you always read something out of context in the papers and take it as that?
The article I posted stated his comment as is..you cant change the meaning to suit your agenda....
In the articles you read, there is nothing that shows his comments in the actual wording...I used the one I did because it showed his comments AS IS, not added in comments to suggest he said something else like the ones you read.
Anyhow...Like I said..what he did was wrong no matter how you slice it.

If this was such a big deal then can someone explain something to me? In the VP debate Edwards brought up Cheney's daughter in virtually the same context and not only did Cheney not appear upset but he thanked Edwards for the comment. How does he now become a "very angry father" now that Kerry mentions his daughter's name? I don't recall Kerry saying anything at all negative about her.

If you had kept reading Mary Cheney is mentioned and Keyes responds that of course she is a selfish hedonist. Those were his words.

Since Sayzak is obviously a mindreader, the rest of us can log off and he can handle all posting from here on out.
